The South Carolina Army National Guard has begun the process of clearing and grading land at the Lakelands Commerce Center in Abbeville. The South Carolina National Guard 122nd Engineer Battalion will clear and grade approximately 40 acres at the Lakelands Commerce Center.

Ninety Six Golf wedged out a win

The Ninety Six Golf Team won their match against Greenwood and Laurens High Schools held Monday, April 25 at Stoney Point Golf Club.  Two strokes separated Ninety Six with a score of 148 over Greenwood’s 150.  Laurens finished with 185.  NSHS score of 148 was the best 9-hole performance since Coach David Duffie took over the team.

NSHS:  James May-35, Gabe Kelly-37, Skyler McFaddin-37, Peyton McFaddin-39, Zach Allison-39 and Sam Crittendon-40

GHS:  Jon Parker-36, Austin Brooks-37, Reed McCutheon-38, Kobie Morton-39, Ryan Champayne-41 and Alex Stevenson-43

LHS: 38, 39, 54 and 54.  (No names were received)

The Athena Trio Concert Concludes FESTIVA 2015-2016 Season

The FESTIVA Art Series of First Presbyterian Church of Greenwood will host its final event of the 2015-2016 season on Sunday, May 15, at 4:00 pm, with a free concert by the Athena Trio.

A music festival to benefit the Humane Society of Greenwood is being held on Sunday, May 8, starting at 6pm, at the driving range at The Links at Stoney Point. Historical Fiction Book Club Meeting

All readers are welcome to join our Historical Fiction Book Club! In the second meeting of 2016, we will be discussing Enemy Women by Paulette Jiles. This Civil War era novel is a story of family, sacrifice, and survival. Book Club meetings include delicious refreshments and an interesting discussion.

Chastity Copeland launched her career with the Greenwood County Clerk of Court office in August of 1999 until she parted in June of 2013. While with the clerk’s office, she was given the responsibility to be the Deputy Clerk in the general sessions department.  Her tasks included, but were not limited to, maintaining all pending general sessions files, bench warrants, and data transfer of time sensitive information to the State Judicial Department.

Born and raised in Greenwood, after high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Viet Nam.  Along with other medals, I was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries received in combat.  Following my honorable discharge, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Lander University.

McCravy Announces His Candidacy for SC House 13

John McCravy recently announced he will throw his hat in the ring for the 13th District House Seat.

 “I am running because we need to stand firm for the values and heritage of the people of District 13,” McCravy said when asked why he is running. He added, “Our state's infrastructure is crumbling. Special interest and government agencies are clamoring for your money. We need to stand firm for laws that protect SC.”
