United Housing Connections is collecting donations for the 2019 PIT Count
Donations will go to those experiencing homelessness in the Upstate

On behalf of the Upstate Continuum of Care, Meg’s House is collecting donations for the 2019 Point-in-Time Count (PIT Count) which takes place from January 23-29, 2019.

Donations of unused backpacks, blankets, handwarmers, pen and notepads are needed. UHC has a goal of packing and distributing 600 bags of supplies to persons experiencing homelessness during the PIT count. Please consider donating to help those in need of shelter. Donations can be dropped off at  the United Center for Community Care through Monday, January 4, 2019.

The PIT Count is an annual nationwide effort that takes place each January. It provides an unduplicated census of people experiencing homelessness – sheltered or not – on a given night and helps communities better understand the magnitude and characteristics of its homeless population.

Using a short survey, volunteers will speak to willing participants encountered on the streets, in shelters, and other locations in order to learn more about their housing situation and characteristics, and to help place people in available housing or shelter. In exchange for sharing information, participants will receive a bag with toiletries and other needed items.

During the 2018 PIT Count, on a single night in January- 3,933 individuals were experiencing homelessness across the state. Of these, 1,185 were located in the Upstate in including 79 veterans, 181 chronically homeless, and 336 in shelters.

However, overall from calendar year 2017 (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31) at least 18,340 persons received homeless services in SC.

About United Housing Connections (UHC) — UHC is an Upstate South Carolina nonprofit organization that works together with other agencies to provide affordable housing and services. We are dedicated to ending homelessness by connecting unsheltered and at-risk adults and children with lasting housing solutions to promote and preserve the dignity and quality of life for all citizens of Upstate SC.
