One man is in jail following an incident early Monday morning on Lanham Street. Officers responded to a call of a stabbing incident on Lanham Street just after 5 am where they located a man sitting in front of the house, bleeding from multiple lacerations. The victim was immediately transported to Self Regional Healthcare for treatment and is expected to recover.
Officers believe that the suspect came to the house to speak with his ex-girlfriend, when he was confronted by the male victim who was there. An argument allegedly began, at which time the suspect produced a knife and began cutting the victim before leaving in a vehicle. The suspect was identified by the victim and the caller, and with the help of Greenwood County Sheriff's Office, the suspect's family was contacted. A short time later, the suspect came to city hall and surrendered to officers around 8 am.
William Taylor Whatley, 23, of Greenwood, is being charged with Attempted Murder. Whatley was booked in at the Greenwood County Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
