The Greenwood CPW advises the residents and businesses along Cokesbury Road, from Cobb Road to Rock Creek Blvd. to include Northwoods Road, Pinecrest Drive and Meadowbrook Drive, located in Greenwood County, to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking.

Students Honored at Awards Ceremony

At Piedmont Technical College’s 42nd annual Student Awards and Recognition Program, president Dr. Ray Brooks applauded the achievements of more than 40 student leaders.  The ceremony attracted students, faculty, staff, friends and family members.

Andy Omundson, associate vice president of student affairs, welcomed students and guests. Students who were listed in this year’s edition of Who’s Who among Students in American Junior Colleges were recognized by David Rosenbaum, associate dean of students, who also congratulated Presidential Ambassadors for their leadership during the current academic year.

United Way plans second annual Speed Mentoring event for 8th graders

United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties will hold its second annual Speed Mentoring event Friday, May 6th at Northside Middle School (431 Deadfall Rd West, Greenwood). This is one of two mentoring events sponsored by the United Way Young Leaders Society.  The Young Leaders Society (YLS) is a means for young professionals (ages 21 – 40 years old) to participate in service and philanthropy in their community. Denise Manley, United Way President and CEO states, “United Way's Young Leaders Society members are caring and committed young professionals on a mission to encourage philanthropy and volunteerism”.

Woofstock 2016, A Music Benefit for the Humane Society of Greenwood

A music festival to benefit the Humane Society of Greenwood is being held on Sunday, May 8, starting at 6pm, at the driving range at The Links at Stoney Point. The bands performing are 3rd Avenue, The Magic Band, and The Deacons of Swing.  Admission is a donation to the Humane Society of Greenwood.

Historical Fiction Book Club Meeting

he Historical Fiction Book Club is set to meet on Tuesday, May 10 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at The Museum, 106 Main Street in Greenwood.

All readers are welcome to join our Historical Fiction Book Club! In the second meeting of 2016, we will be discussing Enemy Women by Paulette Jiles. This Civil War era novel is a story of family, sacrifice, and survival. Book Club meetings include delicious refreshments and an interesting discussion.

Chastity Copeland launched her career with the Greenwood County Clerk of Court office in August of 1999 until she parted in June of 2013. While with the clerk’s office, she was given the responsibility to be the Deputy Clerk in the general sessions department.  Her tasks included, but were not limited to, maintaining all pending general sessions files, bench warrants, and data transfer of time sensitive information to the State Judicial Department.

Sheriff Tony Davis seeks re-election

I, Tony Davis, am announcing my candidacy to run for re-election as Sheriff of Greenwood County, and issue the following statement:

Born and raised in Greenwood, after high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two tours in Viet Nam.  Along with other medals, I was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries received in combat.  Following my honorable discharge, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Lander University.

McCravy Announces His Candidacy for SC House 13

John McCravy recently announced he will throw his hat in the ring for the 13th District House Seat.

 “I am running because we need to stand firm for the values and heritage of the people of District 13,” McCravy said when asked why he is running. He added, “Our state's infrastructure is crumbling. Special interest and government agencies are clamoring for your money. We need to stand firm for laws that protect SC.”
