New location, new items, new name coming for Bismarck Electronics

Brian King
Staff Writer

Since May of this year, Bismarck Electronics has offered Microsoft Certified refurbished laptops from their location in the Marketplace Shopping Center on Montague Avenue. Beginning November 1st, the business will move to a larger spot in the same shopping center and offer more items for sale in addition to getting a new name – Tec-Zone.

Owner Mark Cockrell said his business started as a hobby when he purchased five computers from the Faith Home that had no hard drives in them. He then repaired the computers and sold them at the Anderson Jockey Lot. And thus began his career in computer repair.

Cockrell is only one of about 20 Microsoft Certified computer refurbishers in South Carolina. Cockrell says he gets two or three computers every month that have pirated Microsoft software on them and have stopped functioning correctly.

“If it’s broke, we can fix it,” Cockrell said. “You can run over a laptop with a car and we can fix it.”

Cockrell offers free diagnosis of computer problems and can finance anything over $200 with the help of a partnership with Regional Finance.

The financing will be particularly helpful when Cockrell moves to his new location. Beginning this week, the new Tec-Zone will carry televisions, game systems and cameras in addition to laptops and desktops. He also has over 300 laptop chargers in stock. There will also be racing simulators set up in the store for demonstration.

During the month of November, when customers purchase a Microsoft Certified refurbished computer, Cockrell will donate $10 to the Humane Society. The new store with the new name and new items opens on November 1st and is located at 722-B Montague Avenue near University Grill.
