Building On Change

Thomas Earl McClinton, a senior at Ninety Six High School, aims to do just that with his senior project this year.

McClinton would like to give back to a program that has thought him so much. He has been an active member of the 4-H since 2006. Through this program he has not only shown Market Swine, goats and chickens, he has gained confidence, leadership skills and the importance of giving back.

His project “Building On Change” is dedicated to raising enough funds to begin building a new show barn that once stood at the Fair Grounds in Laurens County.  McClinton contacted Katie Shaw, Laurens County Agent with the Clemson Ext. for support and additional guidance for such as task.

Building a new show barn would allow FFA and 4-H members from all around the state to once again come to Laurens County Fair Grounds to show their animals.

To accomplish such a task, McClinton is collecting quarters to help raise money to build a new show barn in Laurens County. Not just a few, he is trying to collect at least a mile of quarters. That’s right, 5280 feet of quarters. It takes about 12 quarters to make a foot and approx. 63,360 to stretch a mile. He will be placing jugs around in several different counties.  Anything you would like to donate is greatly appreciated.  For larger tax deductible donations or more information on how to get involved contact: Katie Shaw at Clemson Ext. 864 984-2514 ext. 113 or Nancy R. McClinton at 864 861-9806.

On April 15, 2017 he along with many other 4-Her’s and FFA members will lay them out. 4-H is a non-profit organization.

Currently McClinton is the President of the Ware Shoals 4-H Community Club and also President of the Ninety Six FFA Chapter.  Throughout his 4-H involvement he has volunteered his time to many community service activities like: Meals on Wheels, Toy’s for Tot’s, Adopt-A-Hwy, Special Olympics, Medicine bottles to Africa, Mission Trips, packed rice bags and collected can goods for World hunger.
