Greenwood School District 50 has announced the retirement of Jean Powell, Director of the Early Childhood Center. Powell has served as the Director of the Early Childhood Center since 2007. During her 30 years of service in District 50 and Greenwood School District 51, Powell has served as a teacher, assistant principal, evaluator, and director. Powell also worked eight years as a Counselor & Evaluator Assistance at the Greenwood Vocational Rehabilitation Center.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working in public education and making a difference in the lives of students in our community,” Powell said. “The leadership in the District 50 throughout my years has been great. I am proud that I’ve had the opportunity to work under the leadership of Dr. Johnson and his tremendous team.”
“Jean was a remarkable educator during her career in District 50,” stated Rex Coates, Director of Elementary Education. “For the past ten years, she has played a major role in the overall success at the Early Childhood Center. Parents, teachers and administrators have admired her strong commitment to the children in our community. She has been a friend to all who have worked with her and will be missed.”
“It has been an honor and a pleasure to get to know Mrs. Powell on both a professional and personal level,” Superintendent Darrell Johnson stated. “We are very appreciative of the contributions she has made in our district and community. She is not only a caring person, but a professional educator in every sense of the word.”
Powell will complete the school year at the Early Childhood Center and the district will post the director position in the near future.
