EMACH and GEMS Members Participate in Annual Youth Leadership Conference at the Statehouse

Emerald and Greenwood High School were well represented at the Annual Youth Leadership Conference on October 31st at the South Carolina Statehouse Complex in Columbia. The event was hosted by members of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus (SCLBC). Emerald student Jalen Posey and GHS students Jitwan Floyd and Jayden Calhoun served as the representatives from District 50.

The SCLBC Youth Leadership Conference is designed for S.C. high school students to engage in a mock legislative session. During the day, students took the role of legislators by discussing bills on the committee level and debating legislation on the Statehouse Floor. Students also participated in a college fair which allowed them to meet with representatives from state colleges and universities.

Posey is a member Emerald Men Advancing and Changing History (EMACH), while Floyd and Calhoun are members of Greenwood Eagles Men of Success (GEMS). GEMS and EMACH serve as mentoring programs at both high schools.
