Westview Girl Power (PEARLS) would like to thank The Self Family Foundation for supporting our second year of mentoring a group of middle school girls. Our membership has grown from 17 members to a total of 37 members of sixth and seventh graders.
This year, Girl Power exposed the participants to cultural and events which included visits to the Greenwood Museum and the Greenwood Arts Center. Even though these young ladies live in Greenwood County, this was the very first trip to these sites for many of them. The girls also participated in a year- long program which stressed soft skills that students need in order to be successful in life and to become productive citizens. Skills such as using good manners, instant impressions, being confidence and the importance of being courteous. We are looking forward to our third year of participation.
Each year a member of the group who has exhibited the qualities of the core meaning of (PEARLS) is selected to represent the group. This year’s recipients are 6th grader, Keaisa Adams and 7th grader, Taylor Godfrey. These young ladies were presented a set of pearl earrings and necklace to commemorate their success as the 2017-18 Girl Power (PEARLS) of the Year.
