Three Greenwood County Students Graduate from SC Governor's School for Science & Mathematics

Ridhi Chaubey, Michael F. Gresko, and Emelee Guest of Greenwood County graduated from the SC Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the DeLoach Center in Hartsville.

Chaubey, child of Alka Chaubey of Greenwood, Gresko, child of Cindy and Michael Gresko of Greenwood, and Guest, child of Sarah and James Driscoll of Greenwood, will all attend Clemson University.

The 120 students who comprise the GSSM Class of 2018 hail from 34 different South Carolina counties and 76 high schools. Graduates will attend a variety of public and private colleges and universities across the country, including Agnes Scott College, Brown University, Davidson College, MIT, Princeton, Reed College, Rice University, University of Alabama-Huntsville, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Notre Dame, US Naval Academy, University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University, Wellesley College, and Yale University.

Nearly 70 percent of the graduates will remain in state to pursue undergraduate degrees, enrolling in the following SC institutions: Anderson University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, Furman University, Presbyterian College, University of South Carolina, and Wofford College.

In total, the Class of 2018 received $14.6 million in scholarship offers.

“Our wonderful students continue to do wonderful things, and we are proud of the hope and bright future they represent for our State,” says Dr. Hector Flores, GSSM President.
