Aiken Area Home educators take 1st place in SC Regional Future City Competition

Students from the Aiken Area Home Educators take first place at this year’s SC Regional Future City competition.  The event was held at the University of South Carolina Aiken on Saturday, January 26, 2019. This year's competition included teams from many different schools. Participants came from all over South Carolina to participate in this national STEM competition.

Winners are listed below.

1st place went to Aiken Area Home Educators (Aiken, SC)’s Urbe Grafito. They will represent South Carolina at the National Future City Finals on February 16-20 in Washington, D.C!

Team Members: Jenna Potvin, Kyle Kaufelds and Eliza King.  Team Teacher: Jill Potvin. Team Mentor: Larry Morris

2nd place went to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School (Aiken, SC)’s Grelean City.

3rd place when to Paul Knox Middle School (Augusta, SC)’s Rubalexia

DiscoverE’s Future City® Competition is a non-profit educational program that asks middle-school students to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. This year teams of middle school students from Louisiana created future cities in large tabletop models around the theme “Powering Our Future.”

Future City students see engineering as a direct influence on their lives – why math and science are relevant to their world – and make a hands-on connection between their education, Idaho and their future.
