Justin Griffith has been named assistant coach for the Lander men's basketball program, head coach Drew Richards announced on Friday.
Griffith has seven years of coaching experience, including six at Mount Olive, where he was in charge of recruiting, scouting, and on-floor player development. Griffith also served as an assistant at Winston-Salem State during the 2014-15 season.
"I have known Griff for multiple years and have always been impressed with his work ethic and recruiting ability," said Richards. "His attention to detail and communication skills will have an instant impact on our players and program. We are very excited to bring him, his wife Juannette, and their daughter Zoë to the Bearcat family."
During his time at Mount Olive, Griffith was part of a conference championship team, coached three Conference Carolinas Defensive Players of the Year, and recruited Michael Brown, who earned conference Freshman of the Year honors for the Trojans in 2018-19. He also helped lead Winston-Salem State to a CIAA Southern Division regular-season title and an appearance in the CIAA championship game.
Griffith graduated in 2012 with a B.S. degree in business administration from North Carolina Wesleyan College, where he was a member of the men's basketball team and performed an internship with the men's basketball program. On the court, Griffith was a co-captain and full-time starter during his junior and senior years. North Carolina Wesleyan won USA South Conference championships in his sophomore and junior seasons.
