A delegation from Sanda University in Shanghai, China, visited Lander University on May 23 to sign a five-year extension to an agreement that enables student exchanges between the two schools.

Founded in 1992 as China’s first full-time private university, Sanda has an enrollment of 15,000 full-time students. Since the signing of the partnership in March 2011, students of both universities have taken advantage of the opportunity for immersion into international cultures and communities. Five Sanda students were enrolled at Lander during the 2018-2019 academic year.

“We believe in helping our students become well-rounded and geared towards a global focus,” said Lander President Richard Cosentino. “Through this approach, we’re able to produce graduates who are tuned in to the needs of the world, the country and the community.”

International students comprise roughly four percent of the Lander student population.

“Our administration and students are very pleased with the relationship between Sanda and Lander,” said Sanda Vice President Jia Qiaoping. “While we have some academic programs in common, there are areas of study that present intriguing opportunities to work together further.”

Joining Qiaoping were Dr. Tang Xiuli, vice dean for Sanda’s Tourism and Hospitality Management School; Meng Haiying, deputy chair for International Business; and Shen Jie, International Exchange Officer.
