Greenwood School District 50 Registration Dates Set

Greenwood School District 50 will begin registration for the 2018-2019 school year on Monday, January 22, 2018 through Friday, January 26, 2018.  New Kindergarten and New First Grade Students Should REGISTER.  Parents and/or guardians should register their new to kindergarten or first grade children at the school that serves their attendance area between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

A helping profession: Human services workers provide support, advocacy

Helping others has its own rewards, but it’s also something that you can make a career out of.

“Jobs in the human services area are expected to grow by a minimum of 12 percent between 2014-24,” said Jamilla Jenkins-Nelson, a human services instructor at Piedmont Technical College. “It’s a rewarding career because you help people cope with life’s challenges.”

Lander University Readying to Celebrate 50 Years of Men's Basketball

The Lander University Office of Alumni Affairs is urging alumni who played men’s basketball at the school to join them in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the sport at Lander. An on-court recognition of former players will be held at halftime of the Saturday, Jan. 20, matchup between Lander and USC Aiken at Horne Arena.

Lander University announces Fall 2017 graduates

GREENWOOD, S.C. __ Lander University conferred bachelor and master degrees upon 167 students during the university’s 156th commencement ceremony on December 16. Ironman triathlete, attorney, and motivational speaker Jay Hewitt delivered the keynote address during the formal program held inside Finis Horne Arena.

Greenwood School Bus involved in an accident, no injuries

A Greenwood School District 50 bus was involved in an accident Friday around 4 p.m.  According to the district, two other vehicles collided near the intersection of Airport Road and Deadfall Road and ran into the bus.  Students and the driver on the bus were not harmed.  Local law enforcement and school officials were notified and are investigating the accident.

Greenwood School District 50 said they are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all of their students and employees.

Lukie crowned Miss Ninety Six High

The Miss Ninety Six High Pageant was held on Saturday, November 11th at Ninety Six High School. The theme was "The Great Gatsby" and the pageant opened with a parade of contestants dressed in 1920's attire.  It was an evening filled with glitz and glamour.

Lander Gains Reaccreditation

Lander University has been reaccredited for 10 years by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

The reaffirmation of accreditation concludes a rigorous review of the university that began with the submission of an initial report to SACSCOC in September 2016. It means that Lander meets approximately 90 SACSCOC requirements.

Hodges Elementary 5th graders received a special gift courtesy of Satterfield Construction

Satterfield Construction Company donated safety vest for the 5th grade Student Council Safety Patrol at Hodges Elementary School/GSI.

They partnered with the school to promote safety of Hodges students while providing a service for the school. In an effort to encourage students to prepare for the global workforce and to build their interest in STEM degrees and careers,  the College Board and Advanced Placement program has partnered with Project Lead the Way to encourage students to engage in one of three college and career pathways—engineering, biomedical science or computer science.

200 Students Receive Degrees During Lander University's 156th Commencement

Nearly 200 graduates received their degrees on Saturday, Dec. 16, during Lander University’s 156th commencement. During the keynote address, Ironman triathlete, attorney and motivational speaker Jay Hewitt congratulated the graduates on “reaching the finish line,” but urged them to “look forward rather than looking back.”

NSHS students collect supplies for Meg's House

NSHS Library Club Sponsored a School- Wide Toiletry Drive. This is an annual community project that teaches the students to reach out and help others.  The students decided to give their donations to Meg's House in Greenwood a shelter for domestic violence victims.

NSHS students support The Salvation Army

On Saturday December 2, students at Ninety Six High School took time out of their busy schedules to help The Salvation Army. Several students agreed to help ring the bells for The Salvation Army.

“This time of year is a time for giving and I was very proud to see that Ninety Six High School students were willing to give of their time so freely” said Jackie Rapp, NSHS Media Specialist. Many of the students commented that “they really enjoyed helping others”.

In a few short years, economic developers have seen advanced manufacturing go from a niche within traditional manufacturing to the standard for just about anything that gets made in America today.

“You don’t talk about manufacturing as something you want to recruit without talking about advanced manufacturing,” said Heather Simmons Jones, chief executive with the Greenwood Partnership Alliance.

Freshmen wrap-up first semester with Link 101 - New course helping retain more first-year students

On the morning of Aug. 21, 2017, Lander University freshman Cynthia Graham sat in Finis Horne arena composing a lightning-fast email to math professor Gina Dunn.

It didn’t matter that Dunn was standing just a few feet in front of her, delivering a convocation speech – Graham was trying to outrace every other freshman to be the first one to send her message.

She was hoping to win an on-the-spot contest to guess Dunn’s age – something Dunn had challenged all attending freshmen to do by piecing together several clues in her speech.
