FAFSA Week Extended to Piedmont Tech County Campus Locations

Piedmont Technical College has extended FAFSA Week and expanded it to the college’s county campuses.

Due to security concerns, the IRS and the Department of Education now require all students and parents to enter their tax information by hand into their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition to FAFSA Week being held now through April 28, FASFA Days will be held at county campus locations.

The Lander University Athletics Department held the 49th Annual Athletics Banuqet on Monday evening at Horne Arena. The event honored the University's student-athletes for their accomplishments during the 2016-17 campaign.

Piedmont Technical College’s early care and education program (ECD) recently hosted an event to promote literacy for nearly 100 area preschoolers from Noah’s Ark, Mud Pies, Lifetime Discoveries, Children’s Courtyard and Learning Vine.

A springtime pageant marks the beginning of a new role for one man on the Lander University campus. Coordinated by the Panhellenic sororities at Lander University, the Mr. Lander Pageant provides entertainment and an opportunity to raise funds for the student organizations.

Piedmont Technical College is working to make it easier for students to attend college.

NS students, faculty and staff Drop, Everything, and Read
Students, faculty, and staff in all four schools in Ninety Six took time out of their busy schedules from 9:00 am -9:30 am on April 13 to model 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading. Reading is very important and an initiative in Ninety Six Schools that is in alignment with the Read to Succeed Act.

Hodges Elementary to honor Anne B. McKellar & support the American Cancer Society

Hodges Elementary will be hosting the Anne B. McKellar Memorial 5K, a benefit for the American Cancer Society.  This event is held in memory of Anne B. McKellar, a long time District 50 teacher who battled cancer.  

On May 6, we will be hosting a Kids' Fun Run at 8:45 with a 5K run at 9:00 a.m.  The 5K course runs from the school, through town, and about 3/4 of a mile down Dixie Drive, before turning around and returning to the school.  Runners have enjoyed the smooth, flat course.

Ninety Six High School students selected as GCEA Scholarship Winners

Greenwood County Education Association awards two scholarships annually to two deserving Greenwood County students who meet the application and deadline requirements.  The students will receive their scholarship upon enrollment to a South Carolina college/ university in the fall. This year’s winners will receive $250. The winners were Camryn Sprowl and Akasha Strom both students are current seniors at Ninety Six High School.

Whether it’s enjoying a tasty breakfast with co-workers, taking a campus tour, or reconnecting with old college friends at a Bearcat baseball game or a reunion dinner, all former Lander graduates are urged to come back to school this spring for the university’s annual alumni week.

It's been well reported in recent years that a college education, or, at a minimum, some career-specific training after high school is going to become mandatory for the kinds of jobs that pay a livable wage.

To a large extent, this is already the case, and study after study indicates that this trend is only going to speed up.

Scholarships Make Education a Reality for PTC Students

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation recently awarded more than $136,000 in scholarships to 173 students at the college's annual scholarship luncheon.

The PTC Foundation supports the college's priority of ensuring access to high-quality, affordable education by providing more than 80 unique scholarships each year for new and continuing students.

NSHS Golf Team finishes 1st place in Tee-Off Classic

The NSHS Golf team finished first place in the annual 2017 Tee-Off Golf Classic held this past Saturday at The Golf Club at Star Fort.  NS edged out Christ Church by one stroke with Wren HS running a tight third place.  This win give NS back-to-back wins in this tournament.   Both James May (medalist) and Colby Patton (runner up) finished with an impressive 69 score.

Lander athletics announces partnership with Adidas

Adidas and Lander University announced a landmark five-year partnership today, making Adidas the official athletic footwear, apparel and accessory brand of the Bearcats through the 2021-22 season.

"I truly believe that this is a 'game-changer' for our athletic department," said Brian Reese, Director of Athletics for Lander University. "This agreement will have a significant impact on our departmental budget over the next several years and we will be able to outfit our athletic teams at a very high level. Our student-athletes, coaches, and staff are looking forward to working with our new partner for many years to come."

Lander University names Kim English as new Vice President for Advancement

Kim English, a Florida native and veteran of higher education advancement, alumni relations and marketing, has been tapped as Lander University’s next Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of The Lander Foundation.

The announcement came after an extensive nationwide search and consideration of candidates.

Lander University Equestrian Center uses horse therapy for veterans battling PTSD

Most people have some stress reactions after a trauma, but if those reactions don't go away over time, or begin to disrupt the person's life, they may be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  It can occur after someone goes through a traumatic event, such as combat, an assault or disasters.
