***UPDATE*** 12:45 p.m.

Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols has confirmed the victim as Bill Ardis, 65, of 67 Mercy Lane. Ardis died as a result of a bullet wound to the head from a 12-guage shotgun.

***UPDATE*** 11:15 a.m.

Officials at GCSO say that the information ditributed by District 52 about the suspect being spotted north of Hodges is NOT correct. The suspect is still at large. GwdToday will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

According to officials with LCSO, the suspect is Phillip Heath Hollingsworth, 46. He is about six feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds. Sources tell GwdToday that schools in Ninety Six are locked down until they feel the area is safe.

According to officials with LCSO, Hollingsworth got into an argument with another male that lived at the same residence. LCSO believes that Hollingsworth then shot the other man before fleeing the scene.

Hollingsworth was last seen wearing a camouflage shirt, blue jeans and a blue baseball cap. Anyone with information on Hollingsworth should immediately call 911. Hollingsworth is considered armed and dangerous.

ORIGINAL POST:
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office along with Greenwood County Sheriff and Ninety Six Police are on the look out for Phillip Hollingsworth who is wanted in a murder investigation.  Hollingsworth was last seen in the Coronaca area earlier this morning.

According to Mark Petersen, Superintendent of District 52 Schools, all of the Ninety Six Schools are currently on lockdown until this suspect is found.  This came in a recorded message distributed to all student parents.  Petersen also asked in the message that parents please allow their students to remain at school as they are safe.

Everyone is asked to be on alert and if this person is seen to immediately call 911.  The Police advise strongly to not approach this individual.  More information will be posted as it becomes available.

A 12 gauge shotgun is so powerful. I hate that somebody feels the need to kill anyone for any reason outside of self-defense. Prayer for all involved is what's needed.

How safe are the kids if the teachers are unaware of lockdowns and why take safety precautions for one district and not the others?

Coronaca is near Hodges, so the info is correct that he was headed towards Hodges then.
