GREENWOOD, SC – A Greenwood woman has been arrested and charged with identity theft and more charges could be forthcoming, according to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, a man contacted authorities after he received a call from Pay Day Advance concerning a loan he had supposedly taken out. The man informed Pay Day Advance that he had not taken out any loans with them, according to the report. The report states that the information for the loan was emailed with a return email address bearing the name Tara Tharpe Godfrey.
According to the report, deputies determined the total amount borrowed was $1,030 between two different loans. Deputies determined that the loans were taken out by the 36-year-old Godfrey in the victim’s name though the two have been divorced for over 12 years. Godfrey was arrested and charged with financial identity theft on Monday morning. She was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond Monday afternoon.
According to a separate incident report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Godfrey allegedly called her ex-husband at least seven times from three different phone numbers in a time span of about 15 minutes after being released. The report states that the victim told deputies that Godfrey was cursing him and calling numerous vulgar names. The victim already had a restraining order against Godfrey, barring her from contacting him in any way.
Charges for harassment, violation of restraining order and unlawful use of telephone could be forthcoming for Godfrey, in addition to the current charges.
