Cecily Ferguson, executive director of Greenwood-Lander Performing Arts, answered quickly when asked if she expects the Tuesday, Jan. 8, performance by Ballroom With A Twist to sell out.

“Yes. Tickets are selling really fast,” she said.

She described the act, which features “Dancing With The Stars” favorites Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts, in addition to “American Idol” vocalists David Hernandez and Gina Glocksen, as a “splashy show with lots of different types of choreography and costuming — that’s what makes it so exciting.”

Tickets for the performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, are $45 for adults and $40 for children.

Tickets can be purchased by calling GLPA at 864-388-8326, or by mailing in the order form available at www.greenwoodlanderperformingarts.com.  Tickets can now also be purchased online.

The exclusive corporate sponsor of Ballroom With A Twist, which is directed by Emmy-nominated “Dancing With The Stars” choreographer Louis van Amstel, is Davis and Floyd, Inc. of Greenwood. GLPA also enjoys the ongoing support of the S.C. Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts and Lander University.

This summer, GLPA Outreach Program director Jackie Counts took her parents to see one of several sellout performances by Ballroom With A Twist at the Ogunquit Playhouse, in Ogunquit, Maine. She was impressed by the “incredible dance moves” and called the show “very high energy and extremely entertaining.” Her parents, she added, “really enjoyed it as well.”

She predicted that the stunning costumes, magnificent music and dazzling displays of tango, samba, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep, hip hop, jive and break dancing that mark shows by Ballroom With A Twist will delight area residents, too.

Ferguson noted that the performance by Ballroom With A Twist comes exactly two weeks after Christmas. “What a great holiday gift,” she said.
