GREENWOOD, SC – According to Greenwood County Coroner Jim Coursey, Jason Miller Bush, 29, was pronounced dead at 1:07 a.m. Sunday morning at Self Regional Healthcare. An autopsy is is planned to be performed on Wednesday.

Bush was admitted to Self Regional Healthcare after an assault early Saturday morning left him unconscious. According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Bush was allegedly assaulted by Russell Dale Aiken, 33, of 3527 Highway 246 N in Hodges, while in the parking lot at Sports Break. The assault reportedly continued in the vehicle, the report states.

According to the report, Aiken and Bush were accompanied by their girlfriends in the vehicle. The report states that when they arrived at Aiken’s home, Bush was unconscious and cold to the touch and EMS was called. The report also states that another person administered CPR in an effort to keep Bush alive until EMS arrived.

Witnesses told police that Aiken and Bush, who were reportedly long-time friends, started arguing at Sports Break. One witness told police that the victim was in the back seat of Aiken’s girlfriend’s vehicle and Aiken got in the front passenger seat before turning around and striking the victim repeatedly in the head with a closed fist, according to the report. The witness said that Aiken continued striking the victim repeatedly in the head until after they had passed the intersection of Highway 25 N and Deadfall Road, though Bush lay unconscious in the back seat.

When police arrived at the home, they were told that Aiken had fled the scene. Police were unable to locate Aiken with tracking hounds, but later discovered him back inside the home. Aiken told police that he had just crawled in a back window before being discovered in the home.

Aiken is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center and is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Officials with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and Greenwood Police Department say that Aiken’s charges could be upgraded following the autopsy on Wednesday.

Ms. Barrett, You made some mighty good points in your comments. People forgot what the article was about and started to make this something personal. Your following statement: " A man is dead, a child is fatherless, and a family is grieving", will hopefully bring a stop to all of this. You should know that some people do have the Bush family, and especially his son, in their thoughts and prayers. Best of Luck and may all of you find peace.

My name is Breanna Grace, and I am Jason's cousin. I was there when he died. I watched him slip away, just my mother and I. And I have wept everyday since his passing. This family is more broken than you could ever imagine. We just lost his father a year ago, and now him.

Thank you for your interest in this story, but the arguing isn't helping. In fact, it is incredibly disrespectful. Sure this page is open to all sorts of comments, but perhaps those commenting should exercise a bit of couth and compassion.
The family agrees that everyone in the car should be charged, but the root of this event is measured in unbearable sadness. We are sad that Christmas was stolen from us, we are sad that people could not control themselves or the substances they were consuming, we are sad that our family is one young man short, and we are so broken that a one year old boy will never know his father.

His death had nothing to do with an establishment, it had everything to do with poor judgement and violent decisions. The man who killed Jason and the girls who waited too long to help him are to be blamed and nothing else. Please stop using Jason's murder to further your own agendas. If you have an issue, write a letter to the editor or go talk to the owners yourselves. Your bloated and even good intentioned opinions really have no merit here.

A man is dead, a child is fatherless, and a family is grieving.

Thank you for the love and support. Please continue to pray for us, and pray for Russell and those girls.

Hey folks, this has turned into a big mess here in these comments. Why don't some one just send a letter to the editor to post and just let it all be about "Sports Break" and leave it off of this posted article, please give the family of the victim some respect I am sure this had devastated them enough without all this bickering .
