GREENWOOD, SC – The Greenwood Police Department is investigating a home invasion that left one man shot and another injured at a home on Sandy Lane just after 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to a report from the Greenwood Police Department, police were dispatched to the home after receiving a call saying that three black males had forcefully entered the home, robbed the residents at gunpoint, shot one resident and struck another in the head with a pistol. All three victims are students at Lander University.
The report states that, when police arrived, they observed the front door open and two of the victims, one male and one female, standing on the porch. The male victim was holding a towel to his head which was bleeding and told police that he had been struck in the head three times with a pistol. The female victim told police that she was not hurt.
Upon entering the residence, police saw the third victim sitting in the living room floor with a gunshot wound to the left side of his torso. The report states that police also observed a strong odor of marijuana in the home.
Two of the victims told police that they were asleep in the front bedroom of the residence when they heard what sounded like a physical altercation in the living room. The female victim told police that when she exited the room, one of the assailants put a gun to her head and told her to lie on the floor. She also told police that the other two assailants were violently going through belongings in the home and asking, “Where’s the money?”
The female victim told police that she called 911 when the assailants left the home.
It is unclear at this time how either of the two male victims was injured. They were both transported to Self Regional Healthcare for treatment of their injuries.
Lander University sent an alert out to students at about 9 a.m. this morning informing them of the incident and cautioning them to keep their doors locked and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
GPD is continuing to investigate the incident.
