President unveils sweeping gun control package

Brian King
Staff Writer

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Barack Obama unveiled his plan for gun control during a press conference at the White House on Tuesday. His plan calls for strengthening and reinstating the ban on assault weapons, background checks on all gun purchases and requiring federal law enforcement agencies to trace all guns that they recover and keep in custody, among other measures.

The plan calls for $70 million in incentives from the Department of Justice to states for reporting data used in background checks over the next two years and $330 million in proposals for things such as training mental health workers, school safety programs and incentives for schools that train their staff to create safer school environments.

The plan also calls for Congress to provide $89 million in funding for programs to train 14,000 police and other officials in active shooter response and expanding the National Violent Death Reporting System from 18 states to all 50 states. The president also called for Congress to pass his $4 billion proposal to put 15,000 more police on the streets across the country.

President Obama will be issuing a Presidential Memorandum directing the Center for Disease Control to begin researching gun violence in spite of the CDC and other scientific organizations being barred by law from using to funds to do research that would advocate or promote gun control.

The president called for a strengthening and reinstatement of the assault weapons ban that was in place from 1994-2004. The 1994 law also banned magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.

(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.

Now think about this:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
(Yes, that's 80 million)

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500

(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI So, statistically, doctors are approximately
9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,

BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors
before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on
lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

And what was that on the news about obama and his disciples wanting our doctors to ask about the guns we have in our homes when we go for a check up?.... just caught the end of it. When are people going to wake up and realize what his administration is doing... they are treading on our civil liberties... getting closer to Orwell's big brother every day...

The only ones that are ignorant & nut jobs are the ones who think this will stop with banning assault rifles (a term that really can apply to any gun if so chosen) & clips that hold over 10 rounds, they will just come back in short time & say well lets' make it 7 rounds (Just like NY just did), then well you really only need 1 round, oh when we said semi-auto we meant ALL handguns, rifles, & shotguns. The only real morons in all of this are the ones who think this is about helping children or anyone else, this is about more power & control over the people & BOTH parties want it. I don't care if you are a liberal, a conservative, a libertarian, or just plain out don't give a darn (I'm being nice), if we don't stand together on these types of issues we will ALL fall together! This will not stop nut jobs or criminals from getting weapons, it will only cause the law abiding citizen more headache & less rights. If you people really cared about saving childrens lives (as well as adults) you would be jumping on the band wagon of banning alcohol, because more die from drunk drivers & at drunk peoples hands every year than they do guns of any kind. And the real issue here is not even being addressed, mental health!
