Thomas Covar has been appointed interim vice president of Business and Administration at Lander University.
Since 2006, he has served as director of Financial Services with responsibility for supervising the university’s accounting system, managerial procedures and internal chart of accounts, and reporting data to regulatory agencies and other constituents. Before that he was Lander’s budget director.
He joined the university after five years as an accounting fiscal manager in the South Carolina Budget and Control Board’s Office of State Budget, where he received the agency’s employee of the year award in 2003.
As interim vice president, Covar succeeds Glenda Ridgely who left the position at the end of 2012. He also served as interim vice president for six months in 2010.
He said of his appointment, “It is an exciting time for me and an opportunity to give something back to Lander, which has afforded me a wonderful and rewarding career in the field of accounting.” In 2011, he received Lander’s Staff Excellence Award.
Covar, a native of Edgefield and resident of Augusta, Ga., graduated from Lander in 1988 with a degree in business administration and an emphasis in accounting.
He said assuming a senior leadership position at the university from which he graduated is a great honor and challenge that he welcomes.
