GREENWOOD, SC – While many teens spent their Saturday hanging out with friends, more than 50 opted to attend the kickoff for Teen Summit 2013 at the United Center for Community Care, a program provided by Community Initiatives, Inc. to help teens stay off drugs and off the streets.
The program was marked by two 30 minute speak out sessions, with panelists ranging from local community leaders to young internet entrepreneurs. Entertainment was provided Tavoris Miller, coach of the Westview and Northside Middle School dance and step teams.
Among the topics discussed at the event were financial responsibility and personal responsibility. Panelists discussed the topics and fielded questions from those in attendance. The event also served as a mini college fair, with information on several colleges including Lander University and Benedict College.
The next major event as part of Teen Summit 2013 will be the Spring Fling, to be held on April 27.
