A Greenwood man is in critical condition after being struck by a car at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday morning on Hwy. 34 near the Bypass 72 overpass.

According to officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Sergio Hernandez-Cisneros, 24, of Greenwood, was travelling toward Ninety Six on Hwy. 34 when he struck a 26-year-old man.

The man was transported to Self Regional Healthcare by Greenwood County EMS and is in critical condition. SCHP would not release his name due to his condition.

Clothing and shoes were seen scattered around the scene. SCHP’s MAIT team is currently investigating the accident.

Praying for him hopes he recovers. This area is very dim at night and early morning and is very hard to see people crossing or walking along the road. I think they need more street lights in the area so motorists can see pedestrians.

So very sorry to see this. We live down the road a small piece towards 96 so we are always traveling this road going into Gwd. People fly through that area at top speeds as i have almost been hit numerous times. They run stop signs, flying out of Millpond and the Private night Club and also, at night there are always people crossing the roads. See, Some innocent person is hurt due to people going too fast and not paying attention. I have been worried someone was gonna get hit eventually. My prayers to the injured victim. People watch and slow down in that area, and if you're out walking wear light clothing so people driving can see you at night.
