The Greenwood Police Department has obtained warrants on a second suspect they believe was involved in the Nov.16 killing of 21-year-old Tavaris K. Lester at a home on Moss Creek Lane.
Investigators say they have obtained warrants on Montavious Parks, 27, in connection with the slaying. Parks is currently incarcerated in Walton County, Ga., on charges of aggravated assault and probation violations.
Investigators believe that Parks and Demorio Reese, who was arrested last December in connection with the crime, went to the residence on Moss Creek Ln. and fired multiple shots through a window, striking Lester and leaving him near death. When police arrived, Lester had no pulse in his wrist or his neck. Two officers, Lt. Travis Anderson and PFC Wesley McClinton, began performing CPR, reviving Lester before he was transported to the hospital. Lester died a week later as a result of the gunshot wounds.
Parks is also wanted by the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office in connection with incident last July in which investigators believe Parks attempted to rob another man at gunpoint at the L’il Cricket on Emerald Rd. Investigators say that the victim ran from Parks as Parks shot at him, grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and began shooting back at Parks. The victim was shot in the shoulder during the incident.
GPD has warrants for murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime on Parks. GCSO has warrants for armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Parks is currently in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections. His anticipated release date is unknown at this time, as he is currently going through the evaluation process and has yet to be assigned to a facility.
GPD investigators say that they believe they will be the first agency to serve warrants once he is released in Georgia since their charges are the most severe.
