A man who was tried and convicted in his absence for molesting a child has been apprehended, according to the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Shane Washington was apprehended Monday by the State Law Enforcement Division’s fugitive unit, who worked closely with 8th Circuit investigator Windy Chappell.
Washington will now be extradited to Greenwood where he will face a sentence of 25 years to life after being found guilty a year ago by an Abbeville County jury of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
A trial was held in Washington’s absence last April after he failed to appear for his initial court date in December 2014.
The sentence is expected to be unsealed during next week’s term of court in Greenwood County.
