On Sunday, April 9, 2017 Greenwood City Police officers responded to a residence at 204 Manning Road in Greenwood after receiving a call saying someone was being held hostage at gunpoint.
As officers arrived at the scene, the victim’s son informed the officers that his mother’s boyfriend has a gun inside the home with his mother.
According to the police report, as officers approached the residence they could hear the suspect yelling and a female voice crying for help. One officer observed the suspect through a broken window but had limited view of the suspect. He ordered the suspect to put his hands outside the window as another officer cuffed him. At that time, a female victim got up off the floor and ran out of the room.
Preston Marty Wood, 47 of 204 Manning Road, Hodges SC was arrested.
The victim told police that Wood first came to her job site and began cursing at her about having an affair. After leaving work she arrived at the above residence at the same time Wood did. Wood entered the home carrying a shotgun and demanded the victim’s some to come out of a room he was in. As the son opened the door, he saw Wood standing there pointing a shotgun at him. As Wood ordered the son out into the hall to retrieve a phone, the son ran out of the residence to a neighbor’s house and called 911. The victim said Wood fired several shots inside the residence in which officers did find several areas that appeared to have been shot.
After officers arrested Wood, they found the shotgun in question lying on the floor beside him. They also found two other weapons inside the home.
Wood was arrested and charged with attempted murder x2, kidnapping x2, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. Wood was transported to the Greenwood County Detention Center.
