Piedmont Technical College is working to make it easier for students to attend college.
Due to security concerns, the IRS and the Department of Education now require all students and parents to enter their tax information by hand into their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To help make this process easier, PTC is hosting FAFSA Week April 24-28.
“The changes that have been made means a more time-consuming process for students and their families completing the FAFSA and, potentially, a more burdensome verification process after students submit the application, as additional paperwork will need to be requested directly from the IRS.,” said Missy Perry, financial aid director at Piedmont Technical College.
Financial aid staff will be available in the Enrollment Center on the Lex Walters-Greenwood campus to assist you with completing your 2017-2018 FAFSA online. Staff will be available from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday. Students should bring a photo ID and their 2015 tax return and their parents', if they’re under 24.
While completing their FAFSA, students can also learn about available grant, scholarship and loan programs. And financial aid representatives can answer questions on the spot.
“A great amount of financial aid is available each year. Students just need to apply,” said Perry.
In addition to FAFSA Week, the Financial Aid department will be presenting a series of webinars. The first, Financial Aid 101: Completing Your FAFSA, will be held Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m. and is intended for parents of college bound students, and for anyone interested in finding out how to make college more affordable. This ongoing series of Financial Aid 101 webinars at PTC are intended to help streamline the financial aid process for students and parents. Additional sessions will be held during the coming months.
“We are advising our students to complete their 2017-2018 FAFSA now,” said Perry.
