A group of Greenwood citizens took time to learn more about the important work of Burton Center’s operations, along with the scope, size and vast programs offered.
Burton Center is unique in that it is one of only three multi-county programs in the state. Counties served include Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick, Saluda, Edgefield and parts of Lexington. Greenwood serves as the home site.
Currently Burton Center employs 420 people full and part time employees. The Greenwood Operations employs 225 of these employees.
The Center serves individuals with disabilities and special needs (autism, intellectual disabilities, head injuries, spinal cord injuries and related disabilities) from birth to death. Of the current 1,200 people being served, 426 are employed either at one of the sites or in the communities where they reside.
Future invitations will be extended to all city and local elected official and their staff as well as a day for Burton Center vendors to visit the centers. Burton Center will also sponsor employee appreciation days.
