Taylor Keefer, of Summerville, greets one of the representatives at the Graduate School/Career Fair on October 4 at Lander University. Keefer is considering enrolling in a graduate study program immediately after obtaining a degree in spring 2018.

With commencement just a little more than 10 weeks away, graduating seniors at Lander University tried on caps and gowns, ordered class rings, checked their student accounts and squared away loose ends during the university's Grad Gala on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Amidst the bustle of graduation preps, employers and recruiters stood nearby, ready to answer questions or offer advice. Organized by the Office of Career Services, the Graduate School/Career Fair introduces undergraduates to businesses looking to hire; and provides information on various graduate study programs that are offered across the region.

Jessica Woody, of Clinton, stopped by the Grier Student Center in hopes of learning more about online programs. In addition to her studies, the senior business major is raising a toddler, which makes the flexibility of online courses even more enticing.

"It would be a lot easier for me to manage things by taking classes online," Woody mentioned after speaking with one of the recruiters. "I'm already used to the online process and it would give me more time to spend with my two-year-old."

Taylor Keefer, of Summerville, is eager to continue her education immediately after obtaining a degree. "I don't want to wait," Keefer said. "My mom is working on her degree now, and I've seen how hard it is for her. If you wait later in life to go to graduate school, there are other priorities on top of that - like taking care of a family and working fulltime." Keefer plans to graduate in the spring of 2018 with a degree in business management/marketing.

More than 30 businesses and graduate schools traveled to Greenwood to recruit from the university's pool of highly qualified candidates. "We had a great turnout," commented Amanda Morgan, Director of Career Services.

Recruiters not able to participate in the Graduate School/Career Fair are encouraged to contact Lander University's Office of Career Services to schedule a campus visit. Learn more by going online to www.lander.edu/careerservices or call (864) 388-8971 during business hours.
