EPWORTH, SC – Rep. McCravy attended the South District Volunteer Fire Departments’ meeting last Tuesday at the Epworth-Phoenix Fire Dept. and recognized 5 outstanding members.
Firefighters of all ages attended the meeting, from young men in their twenties to firefighters in their eighties. Four of the recipients are founding members of the Tri-County Volunteer Fire Dept. in Kirksey; Warren Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Burt Wetzel, and Calvin Lanier have been serving there since they opened its doors in 1988. Chief John Ward, who has been serving Epworth-Phoenix Fire Dept. for a quarter of a century, also received a certificate of commendation. He is now the Chief of the South District Fire region, including Epworth, Callison, and Tri-County Fire Depts.
“It was inspiring to see firefighters in their eighties passing down their skills and will to help people to young people who were willing to listen.” Rep. McCravy remarked. “They work together outside of their day jobs to keep us safe. Thanking them is the least we can do. They deserve our respect.”
