On Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 09:00 AM the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office conducted their annual Shop with a Cop Program with Walmart in Greenwood County.
This year the Greenwood County Communications along with the Greenwood County Detention Center and The Greenwood City Police Department Investigators assisted in the event. The Shop with a Cop Program was started in 2013 and it is an event that helps those children in Greenwood who will not have a good Christmas be able to do so with the assistance of Walmart. Each year since 2013 the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with the Greenwood School Districts 50, 51 and 52 to for assistance in helping the Shop with a Cop Program to help with assistance any families whose children may not have or see a Christmas for that year.
This year the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood City Police Department, Greenwood Detention Center and Greenwood Communications assisted 10 families in being able to see their child or children have a good Christmas. Each officer teamed up with a child or children and went throughout the Greenwood County Walmart shopping for whatever the child may wish to have Santa bring them for Christmas.
The only items not allowed to be purchased was any type weapons such as a pellet or BB guns or knives. This year the children either purchased a bicycle of their choosing, clothes, tools and some even purchased household items and stated they wanted to help out their mom or dad this Christmas.
