Each year, volunteers in the Lakelands raise funds in a variety of ways. To support the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. One of these are by selling fundraising shirts designed for that year.

For the 2018 Relay season we held a t-shirt design contest. The contest was running late last year and open to all students in the following counties; Abbeville, Greenwood, McCormick and Newberry. The winner of the contest would receive a two-hundred-dollar cash prize.

After looking at many entries. A design was chosen. The student that submitted the winning design is McKalla Bell. She is a senior at Greenwood High. She stated, “I chose to participate in the Relay For Life t-shirt contest in memory of my grandmother. Every year my grandmother attended the candlelight (Luminaria) ceremony at the YMCA to walk with others who were fighting alongside her. With my t-shirt submission and the tradition of going to Relay For Life, my grandmother’s and others legacy will live on.”

Please help us get as many of McKalla’s shirts out to the public as possible. We are also offering the “Fight like a girl” shirts. Please go to relayforlife.org to see the participants about getting yours’ today for fifteen dollars. Or contact Hoyt Dorn, Senior Community Manager at 871-4210 or hdorn@cancer.org
