Man arrested after Trooper witnessed live shooting incident

Greenwood City Police have one man in custody following a shooting incident that led to a short car chase. A Trooper with South Carolina Highway Patrol was on Hwy 25 South when he observed a man in a vehicle begin shooting at another car.

Kavin Quantez Evans, 23, of Greenwood, was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. The investigation is still ongoing; other charges may be filed later.

When the trooper attempted to stop the Evans’ vehicle, he refused to stop and attempted to run from the Trooper. The Evans eventually pulled over on Maplewood Court, where he fled on foot. The trooper lost sight of him momentarily, but responding units set up a perimeter to contain the suspect. Information at the time led officers to believe that Evans had entered one of the apartments, and the SWAT team prepared to make entry.

After approximately two and a half hours, Evans was taken into custody without incident. SWAT members cleared the residence and the scene was turned over to investigators to work the case. There was one person injured by the gunfire; their condition is unknown at this hour.

Multiple agencies were involved in this incident including SCHP, State Transport Police, and the GCSO.
