Two Motorcyclist killed in multiple vehicle accident

The SCHP is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Hwy 221/72 and Evans Pond Road on May 5, 2018 at 8:50 p.m. 

Two motorcycles along with a 2005 Nissan were traveling North on Hwy 221/72.  Also a 1999 Jeep was traveling East on Evan Pond Road.  It’s reported that one of the motorcycles struck the Jeep on Evans Pond Road and the other was struck by the Nissan. 

Both drivers of the motorcycles were killed.

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox said that Motorcyclists John Wilson Ruley, 45 and Thomas Edward Burdette, 57 both died at the scene.

According to the SCHP, neither were wearing helmets and were ejected from their bikes.

Each rider had a passenger and both were transported to Self Regional Healthcare and then to Greenville Memorial due to their injuries.

The driver of the Jeep traveling on Evans Pond Road was reported not to be wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle as well.  He was transported by helicopter to Greenville Memorial.

The driver of the 2005 Nissan, Shaundrece Clark, 22 of Ridge Springs was not injured but faces charges of Felony DUI X2, Felony DUI with great bodily injuries, Open Container and possibly more to come.

The SCHP and Greenwood County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the accident.
