Rep. McCravy honors Volunteers in Medical Missions

Rev. Archie Moore opened with prayer as 16 loyal members of Volunteers in Medical Missions were honored by Rep. John McCravy at Greenwood Presbyterian Church Friday.

Founded in 1986, VIMM is a South Carolina based nonprofit organization of Christian medical professionals and other volunteers dedicated to “minister[ing] to the physical & spiritual needs of children & adults in developing countries throughout the world,” according to their mission statement. In 32 years, the volunteers have organized over 268 mission trips to multiple countries, offered free medical treatment to over 445,000 people, and built seven medical clinics in developing nations in South America and Africa.

“I remember when Dana and I were a young couple and we had just moved to Greenwood. We went to South Main Street Baptist Church, and we helped pack medicines for VIMM. When my son was this high, he and I packed medicines for VIMM together, and it was so much fun, because you knew these were going to help somebody. And now my son still packs medicines for VIMM here at this church.” On behalf of the state, McCravy thanked the volunteers who had been on the multiple mission trips at a reception in their honor.
