The man who escaped from the Greenwood County Detention center while being transported to the rear side of the building is now back in custody.
Steven Ray Fendley, 39 actually broke free from a Sheriff Deputy around 10:49 a.m. this morning and fled on foot South on Oak Avenue. Law enforcement along with the Bloodhound Tracking Team searched for Fendley until they scaled back the search around 1 p.m.
Later around 6:48 p.m., the Greenwood County E911 Center received two separate calls from citizens saying they seen someone matching his description near National Health Care on East Cambridge Ave in Greenwood. Officers responded to the area and located Fendley. Fendley still had handcuffs on but had broken the chain connecting them. He again resisted arrest and was tazed by the arresting officers. Fendley was taken into custody and transported to Self Regional Healthcare. After being cleared they transported him back to the Greenwood County Detention Center.
“II want to commend all of the law enforcement officers who assisted in the search and their hard work to put the suspect back in custody” said Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly.
