With a dominating win over the #1 Ranked Alabama to become the 2018 National Champions, Clemson earns RESPECT.
Trevor Lawrence passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns and the second-ranked Tigers beat No. 1 Alabama 44-16 on Monday night in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
In doing so,Clemson is the first team in the AP poll era, dating back to 1936, to finish 15-0, and the first since the playoff started five seasons ago according to ESPN.
Throughout social media, even diehard South Carolina Gamecock fans are conceding that Clemson is the best overall college football team.
Statements have been made over the years that Clemson just doesn’t see the level of competition in the ACC like the SEC. This season Alabama was their last resort to continue that argument but after Clemson dominated and controlled the #1 SEC team, that argument is mute.
So what was the contributing factors for Clemson’s win over Alabama?
Passing: Clemson 347 yds with 3 TD - Alabama 295 yds with 2 TD
Rushing: Clemson 135 yds with 2 TD - Alabama 148 yds with 0 TD
Receiving: Clemson 347 yds with 3 TD - Alabama 295 yds with 2 TD
On all three above, Clemson was able to outperform Alabama simply by getting the ball over the goal line more. Alabama rushing attempts fell short to produce any points .
Fumbles: Clemson 0 - Alabama 2
Sacs: Clemson 2 - Alabama 0
Interceptions: Clemson 2 - Alabama 0
This is where we believe the major contributions came into play. Clemson Trevor Lawrence and his offensive line avoided any sacs which creates a very comfortable stage to perform in. Alabama hurt themselves with 2 fumbles and major interceptions ripped the spirit out of the Roll Tide.
Simply put, Clemson delivered a defeat to Alabama that they have never witnessed before. Congratulations to Clemson Tigers on their perfect season and a Championship win!
