Members of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at Lander University, in Greenwood, are teaming up with the American Red Cross to conduct a blood drive on Wednesday, March 13, from noon to 5 p.m. Red Cross staff will set up blood collection stations in the ground floor conference room of Centennial Hall on campus.
Lisa Colby, executive director of the Red Cross Upstate Chapter, said there is a constant need for blood to help save patient lives. She added, “Having a sufficient supply of blood is critical especially at this time of the year when the number of donors decreases significantly because of flu outbreaks and other winter illnesses.”
Colby said donors can make an appointment online for the Lander blood drive at www.redcrossblood.org and that walk-ins are always welcome.
The Red Cross provides most of the blood and blood products in South Carolina and is the single largest supplier of blood in the nation.
More than 40 units of blood were collected at Lander last October during a blood drive that members of Delta Sigma Phi helped to organize.
