The USTA sanctioned fourth annual Brian O'Reilly Memorial Celebration of Veterans Tennis tournament, usually held in November in conjunction with Veterans Day, will still honor and remember Veterans, but needed a date change due to date conflict in November. The new date will be Saturday, June 29th at the Gatewood Racket Club in Greenwood.
"I am hoping that we will have just as much fun and have just as many participants as last year, even with the new time of year", said Lori Flick, Tournament Director. "I will be heading to USC in the Fall to teach and attend graduate school, and would not have been available to organize it during November." Last year there were over 50 participants, from North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina. After tournament expenses are paid, any proceeds will be donated to the local chapter of Operation Enduring Warrior.
The USTA tournament will be a one day, 8 game pro set format, for men's, women's and mixed doubles categories ranging from levels 3.0 to 4.5 adults. There will be medals for the champions of each category.
All participants are invited to bring pictures of their family members that are veterans, or currently serving the US military to be displayed during the day. Breakfast, Lunch and snacks will be provided for players during the tournament. You must register on the USTA tennis link website with ID number 700015118 to play, and cost of registration is $25 for the first event, and $5 for a second.
