Lyn Bourne, Chairman of the Burton Center Board for Disabilities and Special Needs, has announced that Laurie Myers Cordell has been promoted to Interim Executive Director of Burton Center. Laurie has served as Deputy Director of Burton Center for ten years.
Laurie has been employed with Burton Center for 31 years. Prior to serving as Deputy Director, Laurie served as Director of Greenwood Operations. She has served as Residential Director, Ware Shoals Operations Director, Quality Intellectual Disabilities Professional, and Case Manager.
Laurie is a graduate of Winthrop College with a BA degree in Sociology. She is a licensed Social Worker in South Carolina.
Laurie is a member of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club, serving as past president. She is a member of Greenwood Non-Profit Council. Laurie is a past member of Greenwood Rotary Club, Greenwood Lions Club and was the past secretary of United Way Partnership committee. She has served on the Nursing Advisory Boards at Piedmont Technical College and Lander University. Laurie has served as an Adjunct Instructor at Piedmont Technical College. She is a graduate of the South Carolina Human Service Providers Association’s Executive Leadership Academy. She was awarded the Distinguished Kiwanis Award for 2011/12.
Laurie and her husband, Bryan, reside in Greenwood and have two daughters and four grandchildren. They are members of Rock Presbyterian Church.
