Gun Buyback

Following the recent up-tick in gun violence in Greenwood City and County, BLM would like to co-organize and co-host a Gun Buyback Initiative. We have found that other cities that have hosted such an event have removed fairly large numbers off the street. We feel that every gun that we can remove from the streets, could potentially save a life.

We propose that both the city and county both, match BLM’s donations of $5,000.00 to provide a total of $15,000 in $100.00 or $200.00 gift cards. These gifts cards will be provided to any person that comes forward and turns over a gun. We would like to be in agreeance that any gun turned in will not be subjected to any search or included as evidence in any outstanding murder investigations, rather have the relief of the weapon being in safe hands.

The initiative rewards the voluntary surrender of firearms while also engaging our communities towards a common goal of reducing gun violence. The Black Lives Matter Gun Buyback Imitative is a violence reduction strategy that transitions into the Fall Night Lights Program hosted by BLM.
