Two men facing attempted murder charges

Greenwood City Police responded to McLees Ave and Florence Street on the early morning of Feb 11, 2020 in reference of multiple gunshots into a residence.

On McLees Ave, one house with several inside was struck several times.  Officers saw several bullet holes throughout the residence and to a vehicle parked outside.  While investigating, Officers heard more gunshots about a couple blocks over.  They quickly left to investigate.

Officers found another residence on Florence Street that was struck multiple times.  A video surveillance at one of the homes showed a silver, 4-door vehicle, possible a Dodge Charger on the street at the time of the shootings.

As Officers patrolled the area, one noticed a matching vehicle crossing Marshall Road and turned into Phoenix Place apartments.  As the officer followed the vehicle appeared to be leaving until it stopped, two suspects fled on foot near building #12.

Jaylin Khalil Carter, 20 of 1401 Phoenix Street and Daitin Tyreik Sowell, 20 of 119 Southern Ave, both of Greenwood were arrested.

When Carter exited the vehicle, Officers saw what they believed to be an AK-47 in his hands.  During pursuit, one officer heard what he believed to be a gunshot.  Carter was apprehended but resisted t the point where officers had to deploy a taser to gain control.

Both Carter and Sowell were charged with Attempted Murder.  Carter is also charged with discharging a firearm into a dwelling and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
