Lander ROTC Students in Rare Training Exercise With Black Hawk Helicopters

Two 11,000-pound Black Hawk helicopters from McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Hopkins touched down at Lander University today as ROTC students from Lander, Presbyterian College, Newberry College took part in joint training exercises. The three schools collectively form the Scottish Highlander Battalion.

Students visit The Bayberry of Greenwood
“The Bayberry of Greenwood residents enjoyed some High School students from Greenwood Christian School on Friday, April 13th. This was part of a missions day  that they go out in to the community and volunteer their time and talents.

Students enjoyed the day by asking the residents questions from their younger years and getting to know them, playing in teams of corn hole while they cheered each other on, enjoyed a pizza lunch with the residents and ended the day with a fun game of bingo! We want to thank the school and students for thinking of us for their mission day, it was a mission well served.”

Police make arrest in fatal shooting of a minor

Greenwood City Police Investigators located and arrested a suspect in the recent murder of the 15-year-old boy on Tennessee Court in Greenwood. Detectives identified the suspect through their investigation, and they made contact with him this morning.

Being that the suspect is 16 and classified as a minor, his name is not being released.  He has been transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia SC where he awaits a trial.

Lander Athletics to dedicate Purple Heart parking space at Jeff May Complex

Lander Athletics and Lander University Military and Veteran Services have partnered to permanently reserve a front-row parking spot for U.S. service members wounded in combat by painting a parking spot purple, the color of the Purple Heart, this Saturday, April 21, 2018 during an outdoor ceremony at the Lander University Jeff May Complex.

Greenwood man arrested after shooting at house

Greenwood Police officers arrested one man early Sunday morning who is suspected of shooting at a residence.

Toddrekus Malik White, 24, of Greenwood was charged with Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling and Failure to Stop on Lawful Command. Investigators will be following up, and other charges may be forthcoming.

Man arrested after Trooper witnessed live shooting incident

Greenwood City Police have one man in custody following a shooting incident that led to a short car chase. A Trooper with South Carolina Highway Patrol was on Hwy 25 South when he observed a man in a vehicle begin shooting at another car.

Coroner identifies teenager fatally shot in Greenwood

Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox has released the identity of the teenager fatally shot on April 4, 2018.

Tidrekis Daquan Gary, 15 of Vaughn Street in Greenwood was fatally shot in the area of Tennessee Court and Ohio Court in the city of Greenwood.  Police have ruled the shooting a homicide and the incident is still under investigation.

Teenager fatally shot in Greenwood

Greenwood City Police responded to a shooting incident on Tennessee Court Wednesday evening around 7:30 p.m.  Officers found a 15-year-old victim shot.  The victim was taken to Self Regional Healthcare where he later died from the gunshot wounds.

Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awards $152,558 in Spring funding
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently awarded Caritas grants for the spring 2018 grant cycle.  These grants bear the name of one of the guiding principles of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, in omnibus caritas, meaning “in all things charity.”  

Caritas grants are awarded to organizations meeting fundamental needs of individuals and families living in poverty in South Carolina.  These organizations often act as a lifeline in their communities and provide valuable services to those they serve.  In total, 50 organizations were awarded Caritas spring 2018 funding for a total of $152,558.00. These funds will assist these organizations in providing services to individuals and families in South Carolina.

New Corporate Headquarters for Greenwood Capital

Greenwood Capital is pleased to announce its relocation to its newly renovated offices on the first floor of 425 Main St., in the heart of Uptown Greenwood.  An SEC-registered investment adviser, Greenwood Capital was founded in 1983, in the Greenwood Building at the corner of Main St. and Maxwell Ave.  The building at 425 Main Street was opened in 1978 as Greenwood Savings & Loan, and in 2003 was vacated.  In 2009, Countybank located its corporate offices to the 2nd floor, with the first floor remaining vacant.

Lander University, Rolling Thunder honor POWs and MIAs with ceremonies at softball, baseball games

Lander Athletics and Lander University partnered with The Rolling Thunder Chapters of South Carolina to present and dedicate a Chair of Honor for all POWs and MIAs in two ceremonies at the softball and baseball stadiums on Saturday, March 31.

The first ceremony took place at Doug Spears Field, just prior to the Bearcats’ softball games against North Georgia. The second ceremony was held at Dolny Stadium before the baseball double-header against Augusta.
