Springfield Resumes Normal Operation After Afternoon Lockout
This afternoon at around noon, Springfield Elementary School went on a lockout due to a staff member on the playground who reported hearing a loud noise in the distance away from the school. 

As a precaution, school administration immediately called law enforcement and they began investigating the situation. Officers and school officials determined there was a loud noise in the distance away from the school, but at no time was there any danger to students or staff. Springfield returned to a normal schedule, but there will not be any outdoor recess for the rest of the day.

D50 investigates bomb threat at Westview

This morning, Westview school administration received a report regarding a bomb threat written on a boys bathroom wall. Law enforcement and district officials were immediately contacted, and the school was placed on lockdown. Law enforcement and staff searched the building. After a thorough search, law enforcement declared all safe and the school resumed normal operation.

Leath donates hundreds of hats & scarfs to seniors

Leath Correctional Character Program makes over 400 hats and scarfs to be delivered to senior citizens through the Meals on Wheels Agency in Greenwood.  All donations of yarn are welcome to be donated to our inmate character program at Leath.

Greenwood Edge manufacturing training program launching in Greenwood County

Greenwood Edge, a program that enables students to earn a Manufacturing Production Technician Certificate through Piedmont Technical College (PTC) while in high school, is launching in Greenwood County SC. The program will begin with a cohort of 24 students in fall 2018.

Eighth Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Thursday that a 28-year-old Greenwood man will be spending the next 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a young girl.

Domestic abuser facing 18 years in prison

Eighth Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Monday that a Greenwood man has pleaded guilty to aggravated domestic violence and sentenced to 18 years in prison, just days before his case was scheduled to be called to trial.

Travis Sentell Williams, 37, was sentenced to 18 years in prison by Circuit Judge Frank Addy Jr. after choosing to change his plea to guilty Monday morning on one count of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.  Williams’ sentence is classified under state law as a violent, “no-parole” offense.

Accessible Fishing Pond and Pavilion Coming to Burton Center

The Burton Center Foundation is currently building an accessible fishing pond and pavilion on its Greenwood campus adjacent to the Miracle League field and Sensory Park.  Fuji provided the funding for the one and half-acre pond and covered pavilion. DSP Architects are designing the covered pavilion and related access walkways.

Some 17-year-olds May Register to Vote in the 2018 Primaries and earn money working at the election polls

17-year-olds who will turn 18-years-old on or before the date of the General Election may register to vote in the June 12th Primaries.  Also, 16 and 17 year olds can work at the polls and earn $135.00 for completing a training class and working on Election Day.

Individuals who reach the age of 18 on or before November 6th, 2018 (General Election), and who are otherwise qualified to register to vote, may register and be eligible to vote in the June 12th  Primaries.
