Greenwood Humane Society: Please keep pets safe during 4th celebrations

More pets get lost on during July 4th celebrations than any other time of the year.  As you can imagine, as amazing fireworks are to see they can be terrifying to pets.  So the team at Greenwood Humane Society is asking for all pet owners to keep their pets safe by using the following tips:

  • Be sure your pet is wearing an up-to-date and visible ID tag on their collar at all times
  • Take a current photo of your pet, just in case they become lost
  • Exercise your pet early in the day before parties begin
  • During cookouts be sure to keep pets away from flames
  • Keep charcoal, fireworks, sparklers and glow sticks far from curious pets
  • If you pet is afraid of loud noises, leave some gentle music playing inside to cover the firework

Keeping your pets inside throughout the July 4th celebrations is the best way to keep your pets safe and prevent them from running away.  But in case this does happen, be sure to contact your local humane society and let them know in case someone brings in your pet.

All the members at the Greenwood Humane Society wishes everyone a great and safe 4th of July holiday.
