Man wanted for deadly shooting at Stop-A-Minit arrested

In connection to the deadly shooting that occurred on Feb 28, 2018 at the Stop-A-Minit convenience store located at 2206 Hwy 72W in Greenwood, Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest.

Eric Patterson Thomas, 19 of 102 Enwright Lane, Abbeville SC has been arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.  Also arrested earlier was Tyrese Jermaine Paul, 106 Virginia Drive, Abbeville SC who was also charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Tom Poland to Speak at Land Trust Annual Meeting

Southern writer Tom Poland will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the Upper Savannah Land Trust on March 22 at the Arts Center at the Federal Building in Greenwood. 

Poland’s work has appeared in magazines throughout the South. Among his recent books are Classic Carolina Road Trips From ColumbiaGeorgialina: A Southland As We Knew It; and Reflections of South CarolinaVol. II. Swamp Gravy, Georgia’s Official Folk Life Drama, staged his play, Solid Ground.

He writes a weekly column for newspapers and journals in Georgia and South Carolina about the South, its people, traditions, lifestyle, and changing culture and speaks to groups across South Carolina and Georgia. He’s the editor of Shrimp, Collards & Grits, a Lowcountry lifestyle magazine. His new book, South Carolina Country Roads, will be released April 16, 2018.

Woven baskets from Rwanda, bracelets from cow bones, placemats and scarves made from material left over from Asian saris.  It was an international shopping experience for more than 40 members of Greenwood Catholic Women’s Club who gathered Wednesday, Feb. 21, to hear a talk on survivor-made goods.

Volunteers are needed in many areas:  patient sitting, working in the Hospice House, running errands, selling and sorting donations, repair work, clerical, fundraising and many other exciting opportunities that provide services to patients and families of the terminally ill. Becoming a hospice volunteer is similar to helping a neighbor in need.

Three Northside students arrested over threatening remarks

Near the end of school on Friday, Northside Middle School administration was informed of threatening remarks made by three Northside students. Law enforcement was notified and began an investigation along with school administration.  

As a result of the investigation, law enforcement charged three students with disturbing school and those students will be disciplined according to the Greenwood School District 50 Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

Northside student arrested over threatening text

On Wednesday, February 21st, Northside school administration received a reported Snapchat rumor regarding a school threat. School administration immediately contacted law enforcement and district officials. Law enforcement and school administration worked together to investigate the incident, but found no evidence of a threat that was made.
