Tau Alpha Pi Inducts New Members

Eight new members were recently inducted into the Tau Alpha Pi National Honor Society at Piedmont Technical College. Tau Alpha Pi is the national honor society for engineering technology, just as Phi Beta Kappa is for liberal arts and Tau Beta Pi is for engineering. Founded in 1953 and managed for more than 30 years by engineering technology educator Frederick J. Berger, Tau Alpha Pi is open to both associate-degree and baccalaureate candidates.

NS students support the Miracle League

Ninety Six High School students take time out of their busy schedules to volunteer Saturday, May 20 with the Greenwood Miracle League buddy day. Students signed up to help students with disabilities play baseball at The Burton Center. All Ninety Six Schools encourage students to support their communities and to help others who are in need.

On Thursday, May 11th, Greenwood School District 50 held its annual Support Employee of the Year Luncheon at Genesis Education Center. Employees were treated to a Wizard of Oz theme for the luncheon and greeted by none other than Dorothy (Patty Nickles).

Girl Scout Troop #1520 supporting Bowers-Rodgers Children's Home

Girl Scout Troop #1520 of Greenwood completed their community service project for the year.  The troop uses proceeds from Girl Scout Cookie sales each year to give back to the community and Bowers-Rodgers Children's Home was the perfect choice this year.

Greenwood School to help Boeing Center for Children Wellness Program at MUSC

Greenwood School district 50 has been selected to participate in the Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness Program for the 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018 school year(s).  The MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness program is a school and community based childhood obesity prevention initiative focused on improving the health of all students, staff and their families.

Greenwood’s SC Festival of Flowers stretches its legs with the 5K Run & 1 Mile Walk/Run on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Lander University Jeff May Complex.  You can take your pick of running or jogging the full 5K, or running or walking 1 mile.

Deadline to Participate in Lander Summer Science and Math Program Draws Near

Registration to take part in Lander University’s summer Science and Math program for students in grades five through 12 is available through May 31.

The application form can be found online at A letter of recommendation from the student’s science or math teacher or guidance counselor is also required. The fee, $125 per session, covers all supplies and snacks and lunch in the Lander Dining Hall.

Please come out and help cheer on the Greenwood Miracle League today.  Special buddies will be some students of the Ninety Six Schools along with the Youth Group of Southside Baptist Church of Abbeville.  Games begin at 10am.

It’s a miracle of a time at the Greenwood Miracle League located at the Burton Center in Greenwood SC.

Ninety Six woman fatally injured in wreck on Greenwood Hwy

On Thursday morning May 18, 2017 at approximately 8:25am a single car accident occurred at 1984 Greenwood Highway in Saluda County. A 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Jacqualine Amanda McCarthy of Ninety Six, SC. Her vehicle was west bound towards Saluda when she left the road for and unknown reason and struck a tree.

At Piedmont Technical College’s recent spring commencement exercises, outstanding students from each of the college’s seven supporting counties were honored for academic achievement. Five Greenwood County students were honored for maintaining high academic success.

Virginia Cannon, right, was recognized by PTC area commission secretary Cherry Brown during the afternoon ceremony. Cannon is an Associate in Arts graduate.

Self Regional is partnering with Clinica Gratis Free Clinic to offer free melanoma health screenings for adults 20 and older on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 5-7pm at Self Regional Healthcare Cancer Center, 1325 Spring Street, Greenwood SC.

This screening includes full body skin exams and information about skin cancer prevention and sun protection.

Boutier wins 2017 Women's Health Classic

Celine Boutier (Montrouge, France) made a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women’s Health Classic on Sunday at The Links at Stoney Point over Paola Moreno (Cali, Colombia). Moreno, who led by two shots going into the day, made bogey on the playoff hole. Boutier and Moreno finished tied after 72 holes at 10-under, 278.
