Woman arrested for misusing Self Regional Healthcare funds

Greenwood, SC - Greenwood Police investigators have charged a woman accused of misusing hospital funds.  According to Greenwood City Police, on August 25th, Self Regional Healthcare leaders reached out to city investigators about a former employee who had embezzled money. They told police they had terminated the employee when it came to light that she had used hospital money to purchase personal things.

Police searching for man wanted on sex with minor charges

The Greenwood Police investigators are looking for Cerome Emilio Cartledge, 29, of 526 Sumter Street, Greenwood SC. He is wanted now on two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor (under the age of 14). Please contact the Greenwood City Police at (864) 942-8405, or call 9-1-1.

Greenwood woman fatally hit by vehicle on Old Laurens Road
A fatal accident occurred this morning around 7:22 a.m. on Old Laurens Road in Greenwood SC.  According to Greenwood County Sonny Cox, 70-year-old Lavonia Jones Haynes of 4718 Old Laurens Road, Greenwood was fatally struck in the roadway by an oncoming vehicle.

Piedmont Tech Promotes Work-Life Balance and Wellness in Employees

Piedmont Technical College is taking an additional approach to helping their students succeed. That approach is to promote a work-life balance and wellness in their employees. This approach is part of Piedmont Tech’s strategic directions and goals. Stockman Oil donates truck to Piedmont Agency on Aging

Stockman Oil Company has generously donated a 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4-door trick to Piedmont Agency on Aging today.  The truck, valued at $17,000 will be used to deliver Meals on Wheels and in their senior transportation program.

Presenting the truck to Ed Hanvey, Transportation Manage (right) is Scott Dublin, Chief Operations Officer for Stockman Oil Company of Greenwood.

Man arrested for indecent exposure at Walmart

Raheem Markevious Lukie, 25 of 108 Mimosa Court, Greenwood was arrested and charged with indecent exposure.

According to the police report, Lukie was caught on video surveillance walking around the store, seemingly following several women while masturbating. 

Police caught up with Lukie near the frozen food section and arrested him without further incident.

Couple arrested for breaking into vehicle
Two people are in custody following a late night vehicle burglary. Officers responded to the Baymont Inn around 10:45 pm where the desk clerk reported someone breaking into their vehicle.

Nathaniel Tyler Wideman, 22 entered the Greenwood County Court room today and plead guilty to and array of charges including escaping from jail.

HospiceCare Welcomes New Volunteers

HospiceCare of the Piedmont is pleased to welcome 21 new Volunteers to our Hospice family.  They completed a 3 day volunteer training class on October 3-5, 2017 and will volunteer in many areas of our Hospice including home patient care, Hospice House, administrative, special projects, fund-raising events and at our Hospice Stores located in Abbeville, SC and Greenwood, SC.

The Upper Savannah Council of Governments has received a 2017 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for its contribution toward the Greenwood Genetic Center strategic plan.

NADO is a Washington, DC-based membership association of regional development organizations that promotes programs and policies that strengthen local governments, communities, and economies through regional cooperation, program delivery, and comprehensive strategies.

Local and state officials visited Burton Center on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 to learn more about the important work of Burton Center’s operations. Burton Center provides services for over 1,200 people in Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick, Saluda, Edgefield and Lexington counties employing over 420 full and part time staff member.

DHEC recommends mosquito spraying in Ware Shoals and surrounding areas

The Town of Ware Shoals informs their residents that they will begin conducting precautionary spraying for mosquitos in a small area of the county at the recommendations of DHEC.  This will also include areas within both Greenwood and Laurens counties.

GHS Receives Publix Super Markets Charities Grant for School Pantries

Greenwood High School recently received a $3,000 grant from Publix Super Markets Charities that will be used for school pantries in Greenwood School District 50.

Publix Super Markets Charities announced a $5 million donation to the Feeding America network for schools and other non-profits in the Southeast. The donation was designated to be utilized to help alleviate hunger within families and communities throughout the Southeast.

Student arrested after bringing gun to school

A student at Greenwood School District 50 at Genesis was arrested shortly after lunch time today for bringing a gun to school. 

According to Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly, 17-year-old Zy’tawn Keiras Childs was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property.

Couple caught robbing vending machine

On October 9, 2017 a Deputy with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a robbery while patrolling the area.  The Deputy noticed a vehicle stop in front of Lakeland’s Cycle on Hwy 72/221 in Greenwood.  He then noticed a man running from the business to the car with items in his hands.

Man arrested after stealing truck in Uptown

A man is in custody after a short foot chase this morning. Greenwood Police responded to a call near the Index-Journal offices where a man stated that his truck had been stolen from the parking lot. Officers immediately broadcast a description of the truck over the radio; a sheriff's deputy advised that he had just seen a truck matching the description headed toward S. Main St.

Sheriff searching for four suspects in bank robbery

According to Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, a robbery occurred this morning at the Emerald Credit Union at 2117 Kateway in Greenwood.  Not many details are available at this time but authorities are taking precautions as those individuals who rob banks could be armed and considered dangerous.

Boil Water Advisory Canceled

The Greenwood CPW advises the residents and businesses from the 1100 block of Marshall Road to 1606 Marshall Road, all of Wesley Commons and Lovely Lane including Epworth Court and Susannah Wesley Court located in Greenwood County, that they no longer need to boil their water prior to drinking or cooking.
