Cooper Neimand joins Lander men's basketball coaching staff

Cooper Neimand has joined the Lander men's basketball program as an assistant coach, head men's basketball coach Steve Roberts announced Thursday.

Neimand joins the Bearcats following four seasons on the coaching staff at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, N.C.. He replaces Jarred Jackson who left the program this summer to take a graduate assistant position at Texas Tech.

Lander falls by a score of 1-0 against UNC Pembroke

Pembroke, N.C. – The Lander women's soccer team (7-6, 3-5 PBC) fell on the road against UNC Pembroke (10-3-1, 5-1-1 PBC) by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday night. The Braves made the most of their three shots on goal for the match and converted on the team's third opportunity with the game-winning goal.

Lander rides momentum with 3-1 win over Limestone

Gaffney, S.C. – The Lander volleyball team (12-7, 2-4 PBC) defeated Limestone 3-1 on Tuesday as the Bearcats continued their momentum from last weekend's come-from-behind victory against Tusculum.

Similarly to the team's last outing, the Bearcats fell behind early against Limestone (4-11, 4-6 CC). The Saints took the first set by a 25-20 margin after winning the set's final five points.

No. 23 Lander men's golf finishes fifth at Copperhead Championship

Palm Harbor, Fla. – The No. 23-ranked Lander golf team finished fifth at this week's Copperhead Championship. Sophomore Conor Richards was the top finisher for the Bearcats with a three-round 1-over par performance.

Lander's Cowdroy reigns as Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper Of The Week
GREENWOOD – Fresh off his five-save performance on Oct. 14 at No. 7 Young Harris, Lander men's soccer goalkeeper Dean Cowdroy was named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, his second consecutive award and third of the season.

Palm Harbor, Fla. – The No. 23-ranked Lander men's golf team ended the first day of the Copperhead Championship in a three-way tie for fifth place, thanks in part to a strong showing during the event's second round.

Lander splits with Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial at PBC/SAC Crossover

GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball team shook off an opening loss to snap a six-match skid on Friday afternoon in the first day of the PBC/SAC Crossover at Horne Arena. 

Lander (10-6) fell to Carson-Newman 22-25, 25-27, 24-26 before defeating Lincoln Memorial 25-23, 25-14, 25-21.

Lander unveils 2018 slate featuring three NCAA Tournament opponents

Three opponents that reached the 2017 NCAA Division II Softball Championship and eight matchups against teams that played in conference tournament championship games highlight the Lander softball team's 2018 schedule.

It'll be the third season for the Bearcats under the direction of head coach Glen Crawford. Lander is searching for its second Peach Belt Conference Tournament appearance in three years and its first NCAA Tournament bid in program history.

Lander notches second straight shutout with 1-0 win at Mars Hill

Mars Hill, N.C. – The Lander women's soccer team got a first half goal from Sara Flores and kept Mars Hill off the scoreboard to earn a 1-0 win on the road Tuesday night in its final non-conference match of the year. The Bearcats (7-4) have now pieced together their third winning streak of the season.

Lander's Richards selected as Peach Belt Golfer of the Week

GREENWOOD – Lander's Conor Richards, a sophomore from Hampshire, England, was named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week after finishing in a tie for second at the UNG Invitational.

Richards fired rounds of 74-66-69 to finish seven under par. The sophomore was just one stroke out of the lead and helped the team to a second-place finish in the 13-team field. His second-round 66 was tied for the best round of the tournament and for the second-lowest (relative to par) round in the PBC this season. Richards has two top 10s in two events this season; the top five at the UNG Fall Invitational was the second of his career. He is currently second in the PBC with a 70.50 stroke average.

Lander's Lofts named Division II National Player of the Week by United Soccer Coaches

Lander men's soccer senior Sam Lofts (Swindon, England) capped his week with his selection as the United Soccer Coaches Division II National Player of the Week.

Lofts was recognized as the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

Annual USTA Tennis Tournament to be held at The Links at Stoney Point

The second annual USTA (United States Tennis Association) sanctioned tournament will be held at The Links at Stoney Point on Lake Greenwood the first weekend in November.  Tournament Director and Stoney Point tennis pro, Lori Flick announced the Brian O’Reilly Memorial Veteran’s Day Tennis tournament will take place November 3, 4,5th.    “Last year our first tournament was a success with positive reviews from the USTA website surveys.  We had over 40 players from this area and as far away as North Carolina. We are anticipating the same or better turnout again for this year”, said Flick.

No. 23 Lander takes the lead at UNG Fall Invitational

The No. 23-ranked Lander men's golf team moved into the lead at the UNG Fall Invitational Monday with a strong showing during the event's opening two rounds.

Lander (292-280=572, -4) came into the second round at the Achasta Golf Club sitting alone in fifth place among the 13-team field. After an eight-under performance the Bearcat vaulted to the top of the leaderboard heading into the tournament's concluding 18 holes. Second-place North Georgia (E) trails Lander by four strokes after a one-under second round.

No. 17 Lander men's golf finishes 10th at Cougar Invitational in first event of season

Columbus, Ga. – The No. 17-ranked Lander men's golf team used a closing 295 during the third round of the Cougar Invitational on Tuesday to hold onto 10th place at the Country Club of Columbus.

With their 11-over round, the Bearcats finished with a 22-over-par total of 874. Host Columbus State used a pair of 9-under rounds on Monday to storm to a 10-stroke victory. The Cougars posted an 835 total, while Florida Tech was second at 845 at the par-71, 6,515-yard layout.

Lander falls to Georgia College in four-set contest

Milledgeville, Ga. – The Lander women's volleyball team (9-3, 2-2 PBC) fell to Georgia College (7-2, 3-1 PBC) three sets to one on Tuesday night at the Centennial Center. The defeat marks the second consecutive loss for the Bearcats after winning winning five consecutive contests in previous outings.

Lander's Chretien earns Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honor

Freshman Thibault Chretien was named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week after recording an assist and the game-winning goal in a 3-2 double-overtime victory over Flagler on Wednesday night (Sept. 20). Chretien is one of only two freshmen in the conference with multiple goals and assists this season.

Lander announces new athletics fundraiser for 2017-18

Lander Athletics announced the launch of a new fundraiser to enhance athletic scholarships and operating budgets today. 

The athletic department will be selling numbered golf balls over the following months, culminating with "The Drop" on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at Dolny Stadium. All sold golf balls will be dropped and cash prizes will be awarded to the nine participants whose balls land closest to the pin. Prize money for winning tickets will be provided by ball sales. The event will be conducted by the Lander Foundation.

Team Carolina Demarini wins Flash The Leather Classic Tournament.

Team Carolina Demarini finished 1st in the Gold bracket this weekend in Greenville, SC going 4-0 allowing only 6 runs in 4 games while scoring 62.

Fleet Basketball to Face Gamecocks in Exhibition Tilt
DUE WEST - Erskine Director of Athletics and Head Men's Basketball Coach Mark Peeler announced on Thursday morning that the Erskine men's basketball team will square off in an opening season exhibition game against NCAA Division I Final Four participant South Carolina on Monday, October 30th in the Colonial Life Center in Columbia. It will be the Gamecocks first appearance since playing in last April's Final Four.

Chipper Bagwell retiring as golf coach after four decades at Lander

Lander men's golf head coach Roger "Chipper" Bagwell announced Thursday that he will retire at the end of the 2017-18 campaign after spending 13 seasons as the team's head coach and 40 years on the campus of Lander as a student, administrator and coach.

No. 24 Lander falls behind early, drops road contest to Anderson

Anderson, S.C. – After achieving its first national ranking of the season, the No. 24-ranked Lander men's soccer team fell on the road to Anderson in a 3-2 decision. Freshman forward Thomas Joergsholm carried the Trojans in the upset win with two goals and an assist.

Skelton, Cowdroy earn Peach Belt Conference weekly honors for Lander

Jordan Skelton and Dean Cowdroy were honored by the Peach Belt Conference as Defender of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced today.

Skelton, a junior from Newcastle, England, anchored a Bearcat defense that recorded two shutouts last week. The Bearcat captain scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-0 win over Erskine as the Bearcat defense held the Flying Fleet to just three total shots, two on goal.

Lander volleyball sweeps past Valdosta State, Mount Olive at USC Aiken Invitational
Aiken, S.C. – After splitting a pair of matches in the first day of the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational, the Lander volleyball team (7-1) responded on Saturday by running through the competition in straight sets to notch the team's seventh win of the season.

Senior Reyonia Whipple was named to the All-Tournament team as the Brunswick, Ga. native finished with 22 kills off an impressive .458 hitting percentage on the weekend.
