Lander announces new athletics fundraiser for 2017-18

Lander Athletics announced the launch of a new fundraiser to enhance athletic scholarships and operating budgets today. 

The athletic department will be selling numbered golf balls over the following months, culminating with "The Drop" on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at Dolny Stadium. All sold golf balls will be dropped and cash prizes will be awarded to the nine participants whose balls land closest to the pin. Prize money for winning tickets will be provided by ball sales. The event will be conducted by the Lander Foundation.

Lander's Sarah Owen, a freshman from Lake Wales, Fla., was named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week it was announced by the league office today.

Team Carolina Demarini wins Flash The Leather Classic Tournament.

Team Carolina Demarini finished 1st in the Gold bracket this weekend in Greenville, SC going 4-0 allowing only 6 runs in 4 games while scoring 62.

Fleet Basketball to Face Gamecocks in Exhibition Tilt
DUE WEST - Erskine Director of Athletics and Head Men's Basketball Coach Mark Peeler announced on Thursday morning that the Erskine men's basketball team will square off in an opening season exhibition game against NCAA Division I Final Four participant South Carolina on Monday, October 30th in the Colonial Life Center in Columbia. It will be the Gamecocks first appearance since playing in last April's Final Four.

Chipper Bagwell retiring as golf coach after four decades at Lander

Lander men's golf head coach Roger "Chipper" Bagwell announced Thursday that he will retire at the end of the 2017-18 campaign after spending 13 seasons as the team's head coach and 40 years on the campus of Lander as a student, administrator and coach.

No. 24 Lander falls behind early, drops road contest to Anderson

Anderson, S.C. – After achieving its first national ranking of the season, the No. 24-ranked Lander men's soccer team fell on the road to Anderson in a 3-2 decision. Freshman forward Thomas Joergsholm carried the Trojans in the upset win with two goals and an assist.

Skelton, Cowdroy earn Peach Belt Conference weekly honors for Lander

Jordan Skelton and Dean Cowdroy were honored by the Peach Belt Conference as Defender of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced today.

Skelton, a junior from Newcastle, England, anchored a Bearcat defense that recorded two shutouts last week. The Bearcat captain scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-0 win over Erskine as the Bearcat defense held the Flying Fleet to just three total shots, two on goal.

Lander volleyball sweeps past Valdosta State, Mount Olive at USC Aiken Invitational
Aiken, S.C. – After splitting a pair of matches in the first day of the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational, the Lander volleyball team (7-1) responded on Saturday by running through the competition in straight sets to notch the team's seventh win of the season.

Senior Reyonia Whipple was named to the All-Tournament team as the Brunswick, Ga. native finished with 22 kills off an impressive .458 hitting percentage on the weekend.

Lander drops double-overtime heartbreaker to Wingate

Despite a late second half goal from Lauren Shuba, the Lander women's soccer dropped a heartbreaker to Wingate, 2-1, in double-overtime at Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday night.

The Bearcats (3-1) trailed 1-0 with 7:30 to play when Shuba took a pass from Kari George and drilled a shot across the box into the upper-left corner of the net. Lander held Wingate (1-1) off the board for the final minutes to force their first overtime match of the season.

Lander women's soccer topples rival Erskine behind Martin's hat trick

Senior forward Hannah Martin netted a career-high three goals as the Lander women's soccer team dispatched rival Erskine 3-1 in front of 257 fans at Van Taylor Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Lander Soccer defeats rival Erskine behind high-flying offensive attack

George Barmby and Sia Jamedar each netted two goals, while Jordan Skelton scored one goal and assisted on another as the Lander men's soccer team tallied its 10th consecutive win at home in a 4-0 victory over rival Erskine at Van Taylor Stadium on Wednesday night.

High school students from throughout Upstate South Carolina competed in the first annual Bearcat Angler High School Tournament on August 26 at Strom Thurmond Lake in McCormick County.

Lander, Toros formalize partnership to create new opportunities for students

The Lander University Athletic Department is announcing a community outreach partnership with the Lakelands Toros Soccer Club. The Toros organization has been part of the Greenwood community since 1978 and currently includes more than 500 players from ages 4 to 19.

2018 Lander baseball schedule released, features games against top-25 opponents

The 2018 Lander baseball schedule has been completed and will feature the Bearcats playing 17 games against six participants in last season's NCAA Tournament.

The Bearcats' 2018 schedule also features 13 opponents and 25 games within the friendly confines of Dolny Stadium, where the squad is 162-74 (.686) over the last nine seasons. Lander has not had a losing record at home since 2008.

Lander tabbed seventh in Peach Belt Conference preseason poll

The Lander women's soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the Peach Belt Conference this season, according to a preseason poll of the league's coaches, released today.

The league's coaches picked Columbus State to win the PBC women's soccer crown and North Georgia to finish second, followed by UNC Pembroke.

Lander University Names Coach for Equestrian Team

Lander University has announced the appointment of Amy Kaplan as the next coach of the university’s equestrian team. A native of Pickens, Kaplan has been riding horses since the age of 10, bringing a wealth of equine experience as she prepares to lead the Lander team.

Lander head softball coach Glen Crawford announced on Tuesday that former Reinhardt University standout Taylor Braselton has been named the new assistant coach for the Bearcat softball program. Braselton played for Crawford at Reinhardt from 2014-15.

Lander men's cross country picked 8th in PBC preseason poll

The Lander University men's cross country team has been picked to finish eighth in a preseason poll of Peach Belt Conference coaches, released today by league officials.

The Bearcats, who begin their first season of competition since 1999, received two sixth-place votes and five seventh-place votes from the other seven Peach Belt Conference coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Lander selected 10th in Peach Belt Conference preseason poll

The Lander University women's cross country team was selected to finish 10th in the Peach Belt Conference women's cross country preseason poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

The Bearcats are competing for the first time since 2008, when Lander finished seventh at the PBC Championship. Lander won the first three conference titles in league history, claiming the PBC championship from 1991-93.

The Bearcats have four regular-season meets. The team opens the season at the Eye Opener Invitational on Sept. 1.

Tekker, Hash named to Lander baseball coaching staff

Lander University head baseball coach Jason Burke announced the addition of Cameron Tekker and Brett Hash to the baseball coaching staff on Saturday. Tekker will serve as a student assistant coach and work with pitchers, while Hash will be a volunteer assistant coach and assist with hitters and infielders, as well as baserunning.

Lander women's basketball head coach Kevin Pederson announced today his team's 2017-18 schedule, which features seven games against teams that participated in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats will play each of the top-four seeds from last season's Southeast Regional.

Taunita Stephenson named Associate AD/Student-Athlete Success

Lander University is pleased to announce the hiring of Taunita Stephenson for the position of Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Success. Stephenson comes to Lander after stints with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Delaware State University and Grinnell College.

Lander 2017-18 men's basketball schedule released

The Lander men's basketball team will play seven of its 28 regular-season games against teams that participated in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, including a pair of contests against conference foes UNC Pembroke, Columbus State and Augusta with a non-conference matchup against Wingate.

"Every year I feel like our schedule challenges us and our program to become the best possible team we are capable of becoming," said head coach Steve Roberts. "You want to have a competitive non-conference games to help prepare you for a formidable conference schedule. We feel like this season's schedule will test us early and often all the way until the end."
