Game Summary: Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and scored 2 in the third. The Rockets battled back with 5 runs, but wasn’t enough to catch the Braves. Tight contest tonight, both teams played well.

Local students compete in SC DNR Shooting Competition

The Rocky Knoll Youth Shooter teams recently competed in several South Carolina DNR state shooting competitions at the Palmetto Shooting Complex in Edgefield, SC.  The teams are coached by Jeff and Lynn Montjoy and Jim Tollison.

SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Lander softball team posted 33 runs and 26 hits as the Bearcats put together their highest-scoring day in 24 years en route to a sweep of Converse on Thursday afternoon.

Lander's Squires tabbed as head coach of NPSL's Greenville FC

Greenville FC, a local semi-professional soccer team, announced Tuesday that Lander men's soccer head coach Lee Squires will serve as its head coach during the team's inaugural season.

Greenville FC plays in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), which is in the fourth division of the U.S. soccer pyramid, according to the organization's web site. The club begins its season on May 4 and will play its home matches at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium on the campus of Furman University.

Matty Evans hired as Lander assistant men's soccer coach

Lander men's soccer head coach Lee Squires announced on Monday the addition of Matty Evans as an assistant coach with the Bearcats. Evans comes to Lander after serving as an assistant coach at West Chester during the 2017 season.

HoopsEDU hosting Spring Break Skills Camp Mar 26

HoopsEDU will be hosting their Spring Break Skills Camp from March 26 – 28 at Grace Community Church located at 1611 Woodlawn Road, Gwd SC.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the camp runs from 9-3pm.  Boys and girls from ages 6-16 are welcome.  Cost to attend is $70 and includes lunch.

Emerald High School Boys Varsity Soccer beat Southside High School 3-1

The Vikings broke the half time tie of 1 to 1 with a penalty kick at the 32nd minute mark and another goal scored shortly after that win the game against Southside. 
Scoring for the team were: Grayson Mumford 1 goal, Zack White 1 goal (pk), and Ryan Holloway 1 goal. Parker Boggs had 5 saves in goal. 
The Vikings will travel to Berea on Monday to take on the Bulldogs.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Lander baseball team committed a season-high seven errors and could not overcome a pair of four-run innings as the Bearcats bowed to Nova Southeastern, 12-6, on Thursday night.

Lander's McKenzi Ferguson named PBC Pitcher of the Week

Senior pitcher McKenzi Ferguson's three-win week helped the Erwin, Tenn., native capture Pitcher of the Week honors from the Peach Belt Conference, it was announced Monday.

This week's award is the second this season for Ferguson and the third of her career. She is now the most decorated Bearcat pitcher in history in terms of weekly awards from the PBC. Overall, Lander has won PBC Pitcher of the Week eight times in program history.

Johnson's double-double helps send Lander women's basketball into PBC semifinals

Lander's all-time leading scorer Breshay Johnson posted a double-double in her final career home game as the Bearcats advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals with a 68-60 victory over Clayton State University Wednesday night at Horne Arena.

Second-seeded Lander improved to 23-6 on the season while the seventh-seeded Lakers had their season end at 14-15.

Lander's Johnson repeats as Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week

Lander women's basketball senior center Breshay Johnson was tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday.

The award is Lander's seventh PBC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season, tying the all-time conference record set by Armstrong State in 1991-92.

Seventh Seeded Fleet Upset Second Seed Crusaders
Belmont, NC – The seventh seeded Flying Fleet upset second seed Belmont Abbey 62-51 Monday night in the quarter-final round of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship.  The Fleet will travel to play in the semifinals at Barton on March 1st.

North Georgia ends Lander women's basketball's win streak, clinches Peach Belt title

The University of North Georgia grabbed a 25-11 lead after one quarter and held off several Lander rallies, clinching the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship with an 80-73 victory over the Bearcats Thursday night at Horne Arena. Lander had its eight-game winning streak snapped and remained in second place in the PBC.

Lander's Johnson named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week

Lander women's basketball senior center Breshay Johnson (Hopkins, S.C.) was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Bearcats to a 3-0 week. 

Johnson averaged 21.3 points and 8.3 rebound per game, along with .791 shooting. The senior set the school record for career points in a 17-point outing against Georgia Southwestern. She followed that with 22 points and 16 rebounds in Lander's win over Young Harris on Thursday. In a road contest at USC Aiken on Saturday, Johnson posted 25 points in just 18 minutes. Johnson is fifth in the PBC in scoring and leads the league in field goal percentage.

Fishing for Talent

Seated from the left, Matthew “Britt” Myers and Tanner Maness recently signed with Lander University to become part of the next group of Bearcat Anglers.

The two Clover High School seniors are considered two of the state’s top notch high-school anglers and expected to elevate Lander’s fishing team in the next four years.

No. 17 Lander places third at Spring Kickoff Invitational

The No. 17-ranked Lander men's golf team shot a 299 in the final round of the Spring Kickoff Invitational to finish third in the 17-team tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Fleming Island Golf Club.

Lander's Vinson tabbed as Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week
After helping Lander start the 2018 season with a sweep, freshman Ashley Vinson was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.

The recognition from the PBC marks the first Freshman of the Week award for Lander since 2010, when Shelby Spencer and Marilyn Newman were honored. 
Vinson tossed two shutout innings of relief and batted 2-for-3 with an RBI in her collegiate debut as the Bearcats defeated Mars Hill 6-2. The Union, S.C., native drove in three runs in the second game of the day, including a two-run homer.

Groner earns season's first PBC Player of the Week honor

Lander University men's tennis junior Eirik Groner has earned Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.

Groner propelled the No. 9 Bearcats to an undefeated weekend at the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational at Texas, leading Lander to a 3-0 mark and the tournament title.

Lander finishes fourth at City of Florence College Tennis Invitational

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander women's tennis team fell to Wingate and Augusta to finish fourth at the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational on Saturday. 

Lander moves to 1-2 on the season. 

In the first match of the day, the Bearcats dropped a 5-0 decision to Wingate in the tournament semifinals.

Lander baseball season opener rescheduled for Friday evening

Due to expected rain in the Greenwood area, the Lander baseball team has rescheduled Sunday's game against Mount Olive for Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Dolny Stadium.

The Bearcats will face the Trojans on Friday in the season opener and will play Saturday's doubleheader as scheduled at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. The second game of the doubleheader will be a seven-inning contest.

EHS Girls Varsity Basketball beat Carolina High School & Academy 62-21

The Lady Vikings beat the Carolina Academy Lady Trojans 62-21 tonight. We were led in scoring by Tia Durant with 20 points. Dijah Moore had 12 poInts, Nadiyah Morton added 9 points, Tamara Durant had 6 points, Niyah Goode added 4 points, Kairah Watson 4 points, KD Tatum 3 points, Ke Hankinson and Alexis Harrison both had 2 points each.

Lander rallies late but falls at UNC Pembroke, 87-77

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lander men's basketball team put together a valiant rally on the road against UNC Pembroke, scoring 31 of the final 46 points, but could not overcome a 17-point halftime deficit in an 87-77 loss to the Braves on Tuesday night.
