Emerald High School Girls Varsity Basketball beat Southside High School 45-38

The Lady Vikings were able to pull out a tough win tonight against the visiting Lady Tigers. Scoring for the Vikngs was Tia Durant with 15, Quadijah Moore with 13, Nadiyah Morton 8, Niyah Goode 6, and Ke Hankinson with 2.

Emerald High School Boys Varsity Basketball falls to Southside High School 47-46

The Emerald varsity boys basketball team lost to Southside on Tuesday by a score of 47-46. Zack Amerson led all scorers with 17 points. Jamil Martin followed with 15 points and 4 three pointers. Luke Deal added 6 points. Nigel Scott 4, JT Gaskin 2, and Quai Cloud 2. Emeralds record is now 2-14. Next game is Friday at Berea.

Lander aiming to rebound in second season under Burke

After a challenging first season in 2017, Lander head baseball coach Jason Burke looks to get the Bearcats back on track in 2018. On the heels of the program's second trip to the College World Series in three years, Lander finished 2017 with a 21-31 overall record, bowing out of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament after a pair of one-run losses.

No. 25 Lander races past Francis Marion behind Johnson's 28 points

FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 25-ranked Lander women's basketball team got 20 second half points from Breshay Johnson and used a 20-5 fourth quarter run to vanquish in-state rival Francis Marion 86-60 on Wednesday night.

Lander men's basketball drops overtime decision at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander men's basketball team battled back from a six-point deficit with four minutes left in the second half to force overtime, but could not find a way to stop Detrek Browning, who scored nine of his 31 points in the extra period, as the Patriots knocked off the Bearcats 84-77 on Wednesday night.

Emerald High School Girls Varsity Basketball beat Powdersville High School 60-31

The EHS Lady Vikings beat Powderville Lady Patriots by the score of 60-31 on Jan 9, 2017. Scoring for the Vikings were Quadijah Moore with 22 points, Shaq Hankinson with 10, Tia Durant, Niyah Goode, and Nadiyah Morton with 8 apiece, and Lex Harrison with 4 points.

Lander men's basketball builds 17-0 lead but falls to UNC Pembroke, 81-78

GREENWOOD – Nigel Grant scored 25 points as UNC Pembroke rallied from a 17-0 deficit, built a nine-point lead early in the second half, fell back behind but used a late 11-0 run to outlast the Lander Bearcats 81-78 Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference action at Horne Arena.

Johnson's 17 made free throws help Lander defeat UNC Pembroke, 75-54
GREENWOOD – Lander senior Breshay Johnson made 17 of 18 free throws while teammate Jessica Harris also had a big game as the Bearcats opened the new year with a 75-54 victory over Peach Belt Conference rival UNC Pembroke Wednesday night at Horne Arena.

GREENWOOD – Lander senior Breshay Johnson has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. The honor is Johnson's first of the season and fifth of her career.

Two WSHS wrestlers advance

Congratulations to the Ware Shoals wrestlers who competed in the Area Qualifier this weekend at BHP High School.  Christian Drake and Marshall Vermillion both pinned everyone they wrestled securing first place finishes.  Bryant Bradley who also competed in this tournament placed seventh.  Christian and Marshall advance to the Sectional Qualifier at Hillcrest High School on January 13, 2018.

Mark Riddle tabbed as Lander golf coach for men and women's programs

Mark Riddle, a Lander University graduate and member of the Athletic Department Board for two decades, has been named the new head golf coach at Lander. Riddle will take over the men's and women's programs following the completion of the 2017-18 season.

Lander's Purdie named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week

GREENWOOD – Lander junior Rahu Purdie has been voted the Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.

The PBC Player of the Week honor is the first of Purdie's career and the first for Lander since Tobiasz Hose earned the honor on Dec. 21, 2015.

Lander volleyball to host 2018 Peach Belt Conference Tournament

GREENWOOD – For the first time since 2007, the Lander volleyball team will host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the league announced this week.
Lander, which first hosted the tournament in 1999, will become the sixth school to host the event three times.

"We are really excited for the opportunity to host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in 2018," said head coach Ashley White. "I know we will provide a great atmosphere for a great event."

Greenwood Abbeville Little League (GALL) is excited to share details about the upcoming season, and it's not just about baseball!  GALL is opening up registration for baseball and softball for the Spring 2018 season.  GALL is also unveiling a new website (www.GALLbaseball.org) for the upcoming season that is expected to be a great improvement for the registration process and communication overall to parents and the community.

Lander's Skelton named to United Soccer Coaches All-American Second Team

The four-time Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week has made 54 career appearances, including 53 starts, and has helped lead Lander to a 41-11-6 record over the last three years. Skelton has also helped lead the program to back-to-back unbeaten regular season conference records and a PBC Tournament title.

Three Lander men's soccer players earn United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors

Following a run to the NCAA Southeast Regional championship match, three Lander men's soccer players have garnered All-Southeast Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches.

Freshman midfielder Thibault Chretien and junior defender Jordan Skelton were selected to the All-Southeast Region first team, while senior forward Sam Lofts earned a second-team slot.

Bobcats rally from 10-point halftime deficit, hold off Lander 68-67

GREENWOOD – Georgia College didn't take its first lead of the night until 2:10 was left in the game and survived Rahu Purdie's missed shot at the buzzer to outlast the Lander Bearcats 68-67 in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams Monday at Horne Arena.

Lander fell to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the PBC. The Bobcats improved to 3-2, 1-0.

Mitchell scores 12 as No. 24 Lander holds off Georgia College

GREENWOOD – Lander junior guard Chelsea Mitchell scored 12 points and had a key steal in the final seconds as the No. 24-ranked Bearcats outlasted Georgia College 61-54 in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams Monday night at Horne Arena.

Lander was without senior guard Mylea McKenith, who was averaging 15 points per game but was unable to play due to injury. The Bearcats made only 21 of 66 shots from the floor (32 percent), but Mitchell, a transfer from Division I Morgan State, stepped up in McKenith's absence.

Lander men's tennis announces 2018 schedule highlighted by eighth home matches

The Lander men's tennis team announced its 2018 schedule on Friday (November 24).

The Bearcats, led by 13th-year head coach Brett Simpson, will be play 17 regular-season dual matches in the spring, with eight at their home courts - the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

"We are challenged in the first few weeks of the season by playing four-time defending NAIA national champion Georgia Gwinnett," said Simpson, "followed quickly by our match with last year's No. 3-ranked team, Columbus State. The goal is to be playing our best tennis in postseason play."

Purdie scores 22 as Lander men's basketball shuts down Wingate 76-59

GREENWOOD – Junior guard Rahu Purdie scored 22 points as the Lander Bearcats used an 18-6 run in the second half to pull away from Wingate University 76-59 Tuesday night in Lander's home opener at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats improved to 2-1 on the season while Wingate fell to 2-3.

McKenith scores 25 as No. 24 Lander upsets No. 6 Wingate

GREENWOOD – Lander senior guard Mylea McKenith scored 25 points including two crucial late free throws as the No. 24-ranked Bearcats built a 22-point lead in the first half and held off No. 6 Wingate 81-76 Tuesday night at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats earned their second win over a ranked team, improving to 3-1 on the season. Wingate is also 3-1.

Lander's Whipple earns All-Peach Belt Conference second team honors

Milledgeville, Ga. – Lander volleyball's Reyonia Whipple was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference second team, it was announced tonight at the PBC's annual banquet at Georgia College.

Whipple, a 5-8 senior from Brunswick, Ga., leads the PBC in total blocks (121) and blocks per set (1.23) this season. She is Lander's all-time leader in career block assists with 396 in her Bearcat career and is the fifth different Lander player to earn all-PBC honors in the last six seasons. The Bearcats have put a player on the all-PBC team every year since 2012. 

Lander enters the Peach Belt Conference tournament as the No. 5-seed and will take on Augusta tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., in Milledgeville, Ga.

Lander's Skelton, Chretien named to D2CCA Men's Soccer All-Region Squad

The Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced its 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-Southeast Region team on Wednesday, featuring a pair of Lander men's soccer players.

Junior defender Jordan Skelton (Newcastle, England) received first team accolades, while freshman midfielder Thibault Chretien (Laval, France) earned second team. It marks the second consecutive year that two Bearcats have garnered D2CCA all-region honors.

Spikes Baseball hosting Winter Break Camp

Spikes Baseball will be hosting a Winter Break Camp on December 21 and 22 from 8am-12pm. Early drop off can be an option at 7am.  Players will learn fundamentals based on age for hitting, fielding, running, pitching and catching. Baseball season is coming soon and this is a good time to begin preparing the right way.  Cost is $50, those interested can submit an online form here.
