Four Bearcats named to PBC Team of Academic Distinction

Four Lander women's basketball players were named to the Peach Belt Conference's Teams of Academic Distinction, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Alston, Cobzaru selected to PBC Team of Academic Distinction

The Lander men's basketball team placed two players on the Peach Belt Conference Team of Academic Distinction, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The conference honored Elijah Alston and Codrin Cobzaru as team of academic distinction performers.

To be eligible for the Team of Academic Distinction, a student-athlete must: 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor, 2) achieve a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and 3) have completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.

Lander's Alyssa Suchan named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the the Week

Alyssa Suchan was named Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Suchan posted a career-high four goals and four assists in Lander's 18-11 victory over rival Erskine. She scored all four of her goals in the opening 30 minutes as the Bearcats opened up a 12-6 halftime lead. The attacker added three goals to her season tally against Mars Hill, while collecting a career-high three ground balls.

Lander is on the road this week at North Greenville on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Lander sweeps weekly Gulf South Conference awards
After earning the first win in program history, Lander women's lacrosse earned another program first as the Bearcats swept all three Gulf South Conference Player of the Week awards.

Alyssa Suchan earned the GSC Freshman of the Week award after recording three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, one assist, and two ground balls against Newberry. Suchan also caused one turnover in the victory.

Burdeau named Interim Sports Information Director

DUE WEST- Erskine Director of Athletics Mark Peeler announced on Monday morning the appointment of Kelly Burdeau as the Interim Sports Information Director. 

Burdeau, who also serves as the Head Women's Volleyball Coach, will handle the position vacated by Thomas Holland. Peeler also announced the hiring of Ashlyn Fralix as the assistant sports information director and Jai'P Prupis as a student intern for sports information.

Lander builds 40-10 lead, cruise to 12th consecutive victory

The Lander women's basketball team built a 40-10 lead in the second quarter and cruised to its 12th consecutive victory, 86-46, over Peach Belt Conference rival Georgia College Wednesday night at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats improved to 16-3 overall, 11-0 in the PBC to match their best start in the league since the 2011-12 season.

Bearcats stay unbeaten in PBC, Pederson earns 300th win at Lander

The Lander women's basketball team outscored Flagler by 19 in the second half, led by 15 points from Tabitha Dailey, as the Bearcats earned a 89-72 victory over the Saints on Wednesday night. 

Lander (14-3, 9-0 PBC) earned its 10th consecutive win while Kevin Pederson notched his 300th victory as head coach of the Bearcats. Flagler (4-11, 2-7 PBC) fell to 1-10 in its last 11 meetings against Lander.

Dailey scores 22 as Lander beats Clayton State for ninth consecutive win

The Lander women's basketball team rode Tabitha Dailey's 22 points and Makaila Cange's double-double as the Bearcats extended their winning streak to nine with an 84-62 victory over Peach Belt Conference rival Clayton State Monday afternoon on Martin Luther King Day at Horne Arena.

The Bearcats improved to 13-3 overall while leading the PBC at 8-0. Lander matched its best start in Peach Belt Conference play since 2014-15.

Clayton State suffered its 10th consecutive loss to the Bearcats, falling to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

Robinson, Alston combine for nine 3-pointers as Lander beats Clayton State

The Lander men's basketball team made 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions in the second half as the Bearcats pulled away from Peach Belt Conference rival Clayton State 92-77 Monday afternoon on Martin Luther King Day at Horne Arena.

Lander improved to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the Peach Belt. The Lakers fell to 3-12, 1-7.

"I always thought our offense would be pretty good," said head coach Drew Richards. "We've got to find five guys that are willing to guard and if we can find those guys and have the offensive output that we've been having, we could be special."

Chris Liner Named as New GHS Head Football Coach

Chris Liner has been named as Head Football Coach at Greenwood High School. Liner has served since 2014 in the same role at Laurens High School in Laurens, SC. Prior to moving to Laurens, Liner served as Head Football Coach at Ninety Six High School from 2008-2014.

Thomas DuBose Named as New EHS Head Football Coach

Thomas DuBose has been named as Head Football Coach at Emerald High School. DuBose has served as the defensive coordinator for Abbeville High School’s Varsity Football team since 2004. In 2007, DuBose was named Abbeville High School’s Athletic Director.

Harlem Globetrotters wow fans at Lander's Bearcat Stadium
Holding a spinning basketball with the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters, these youth capture the spotlight inside Finis Horne Arena on January 7.  Nearly 1,300 fans showed up for the basketball show, which was held on the campus of Lander University.  The Globetrotters wowed the crowd with their dazzling talent and comical antics, creating a fun night for fans of all ages.

Lander's Bolton named United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region selection

 Lander men's soccer forward Max Bolton was named a United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region third-team selection, the organization announced Monday.

Bolton led the Lander offense with 11 goals, 27 points, and five game-winners. The freshman from Brentwood, England, ranked 11th nationally in game-winning goals and was the PBC co-Freshman of the Year, along with earning second team all-PBC honors. Bolton was the fourth Lander player to be named a PBC Freshman of the Year in the last six seasons. 

Eleven different Bearcats have earned all-Southeast Region honors from the organization over the past five seasons. The teams were selected through voting by member coaches in those respective divisions.
